Great Market of Mündungshafen
Mündungshafen is the centre of southern trade and on it's market you will find almost anything imaginable, provided it's not of an unscrupulous nature. Do keep in mind that there is more to it than the surface, though...
Purpose / Function
The great market of Mündungshafen is the heart of the Titenfiscan economy and the place where a persisten individual can find whatever wares they seek. What most come here for however, are the textiles. The market has the largest collection of Titenfisca's already bountiful assortment of dyed clothes, acessories, tools and simple sheets, making most of the region's textile merchants flock to the market.
Beyond textiles though, there are plenty of other notable things being sold, from the famed Jewelry crafted by the local Kobolds, many Dionan wines, small quantities of Old Magic and many drugs both euphoric and deadly, depending on the speices. One of the more unsual things about the market is that it is not one that merely exchanges coin; here your money is only as valuable as the metal it is made out of, but you can pay in shipments of wares, a single animal or even tools. Most even accept payment in soul magic or other, less public services.
Architecture
Perhaps the most striking feature of the market is that of its unusual layout. Much like the rest of Mündungshafen is a city of rivers and canals, the market is not confined to the cobbled streets of the surface but instead extends down into the waterways connecting the city. In this underwater market one can buy clothes fitted for amphibious or underwater-dwelling species, fresh algae and other underwater plant life grown for a variety of purposes or even school of livestock of various size. Efforts have been made to make this part more accessible to non-amphibioous species, such as stations handing out special suits with weights and glass bowls allowing the intrepid merchant to wander around for a short amount of time, but for now the underwater areas are still largely devoid of non-amphibious species.
History
For much of Titenfiscan histoty Mündungshafen was little more than a small fishing village, which in turn saved it from the worst ravages of the war between the Human invaders and the Titenfiscan alliance, but the city itself was still evacuated following the first wave of the human invasion and had largely fallen into ruin until it's liberation. Apart from the temporary fortress building that would become the town hall, the market was the first part of modern Mündungshafen that sprang forth from the ruins; first functioning as an army camp, then as a vital supply point before finally growing into it's modern size with the construction of the wharves and drydocks that made Mündungshafen the Titenfiscan centre of naval commerce.
