Ammot
“The Ammot is perhaps one of the most useful creatures you will ever encounter in your life. It is strong enough to tow an entire dolphin by itself, but also fast enough to outswim a shark in a pinch. Take care of it and it will take care of you throughout thick and thin, braving the strongest currents and most predator-infested of waters with you at its side.” - A beginner’s guide to Ammot-riding
Basic Information
Anatomy
The most striking feature of the Ammot is the large shell that constitutes it's home, main defense against predators and equivalent to land-creatures' skeletons. It has ten tentacles for moving, feeding, defense and various other purposes along with a series of muscles allowing it to move by means of water jet propulsion.
Genetics and Reproduction
Like most other molluscs, Ammots reproduce by laying eggs, often finding a cave or other protected area in order to protect their young during mating season.
Additional Information
Domestication
The majority of Ammots today are domesticated and can generally be found in groups around most settlements near or under water, occasionally grouping around designated feeding areas as feeding time approaches.
Uses, Products & Exploitation
Most Ammots are used as beasts of burden, carrying wares in bags hung from their shells or towing larger goods in nets attached to floats. Exceptionally agile and fast ones are often trained to participate in fast underwater races with other Ammots, learning to be comfortable around crowds and using their water jets for great bursts of speed.
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Ammots mostly rely on their advanced eyesight, but their tentacles also provide a vital tool for examining their enviroment.
Symbiotic and Parasitic organisms
Although perhaps not considered symbiotic in the biological sense, the Ammot is commonly bred and found across all water-living sentient beings (Squidspawn, Merfolk and Frougen).
