Cantha

Geography

  • The Isles of Mist: Originally simple farmlands, since the Rapture the islands have been turned into a tourist resort and vacation getaway by the enterprising Legionairre Valeria Shinesea not too long after the founding of Silvus City.
  • Silvus City: Once the thriving heart of a human empire, the capital city laid dormant for centuries after the Rapture until Legionairre Silvus Reachleader took it upon himself to refound the city and make it an achievement that would shame even its shining former self. The action later got him a promotion to Centurion, where he acted as Governor of Cantha.
  • Echovald Forest: About 200 years before the Dragon Crisis, the southern half of Cantha underwent a magical transformation of a malicious origin. The event turned the southwestern quarter of the continent, a massive, thriving forest, into a petrified wasteland, devoid of all life. Since then, its ability to sustain life has returned...to an extent. Animals cannot live here, but hardy trees that grow elsewhere on Cantha can for some time, though they will eventually be turned to stone as well.
  • Jade Sea: About 200 years before the Dragon Crisis, the southern half of Cantha underwent a magical transformation of a malicious origin. The event turned the southeastern quarter of the continent, a massive, inland sea, into a frozen mass of magical jade crystal, which somehow seems to replenish somewhat after a rainfall.

Fauna & Flora

The flora and fauna of Cantha is not very distinct from the rest of Tyria. The animals and plants there are the same common ones found throughout Tyria.

Natural Resources

While the most of Cantha is poor in natural resources, it is mined for the massive amount of magical Jade held within the aptly named Jade Sea, which was created from an actual inland sea by a magical disaster roughly 200 years before the First Dragon Wars. The Echovald forest originally was a thriving ecosystem, but was changed into a petrified wasteland by the same event that changed the Jade Sea. Now its petrified lumber is a luxury resource on Tyria. Besides that, fishing, Poultry Husbandry, and farming of ingredients for luxury alcohols are a common practices on Canthan soil. Black Lion Company also has a strong presence in the inhabited areas of Silvus City, once known as Kaineng City, now renamed after the Legionnaire that refounded the abandoned metropolis.
