The First Awareness

(From the 5th edition of the Mortal Word, the primary agreed upon text of the Church of the Celestial Triad)   In the beginning there neither Anything, nor Nothing. The beginning both heralded the birth of the First Awareness, and came to be because of them -- for nothing could be said to exist without an observer finding it so. Thus, the beginning was when the First Awareness found it so, solidifying the Something that it was into reality.   Being aware of only that moment in time, not of any other moment perceivable as better or worse, the First Awareness saw no need to change the world from what it was. The awareness would wait to see what would become of the Something, and compare it to the Something it had been. So the Awareness waited, and observed, and remembered.   After the passage of time (the exact measure of which was meaningless, as there were no measure of time to compare to) another Awareness emerged from the void. The First Awareness saw this, but knew not what to make of it, for it had never witnessed a birth before. This new Awareness recognized that it was not the First Awareness, and thusly proclaimed the first truth: distinction. He would be called a 'He', and she would be called a 'She'.   'That shows we are Different from each other", said She, "but what would make us Different from all?" Seeing the older awareness and its eagerness to seek truth so quickly, the First began to question and envision possibilities, something that She had yet to witness. "There will be others."   "There will be, and in their desire to be unique just as you desire, they will seek to Name themselves," He replied. "I will name myself Oen, and you can be named Alyu."   "Then I will be Alyu," she replied.   As the truth was proclaimed, so it came to be. And as they envisioned the birth of another, so there was. "You are New," intoned Oen, "And you will be named Son."   The new awareness recognized the others, recognized the judgment of Oen, and refused the name. "I do not want to be called Son. I will call myself Sorres."   They spoke not in absolutes, but in opinions, and thus Alyu realized that their views were Different, because they were Different. The Something of the world now had subjectivity. "Then they will be Sorres," Alyu said, supporting this decision and waiting to watch further of how the Something would evolve.   "Then so it is." Intoned Oen, turning instead to the Something. While the Something existed, it was not defined, nor realized. "I am Oen, and I am Light." In an instant the Something burst into bright, dazzling light, boundless and infinite.   "This is too much," said Sorres. "There must be something other than Light." In their dissent Darkness and Shadow came to exist, hidden behind the form of Sorres though the edges reflected the otherwise unbridled brightness. And thus they had form, and existed within the Something.   Illuminated by the Light, and contrasted by the Shadow, the Something began to take shape before them. It was Air, and Earth, and Fire, and Water - as those were the names they were given. All this, and the light and the dark, were held together by another presence, something that did not quite exist as a Something but was not quite a Nothing either; the three of them agreed that this Something of Nothing would be called Aether.   To be continued...
