Secrets of the Sun Myth in Aewyn | World Anvil

Secrets of the Sun

Uiowyn the curious
is rather notorious
Always searching for more
So he looked to the sky
With his one lonely eye
Deep into the light of the sun
This proved to be
Something he couldn't foresee
As he lost vision on his eye
Secrets of the sun
Cannot be undone
But Uiowyn had now begun
He slowly broke apart
And like a work of art
Only his eye remained on the sandy dunes of Sölplanes
Uiowyn is said to be the first to know the secrets of the sun, but he and everyone else learned a great lesson by his curiosity that day - which is also why he is referred to as Uiowyn the Curious. Secrets of the sun are not meant for small and petty creatures to hold, and the energy connected to the secrets are far greater than anything on Aewyn. Uiowyn had to pay his life to learn that lesson.
That fateful day, he saw into the sun and finally understood the language resonating from the core itself, but it was too much for his body to contain. Before his body caved into the enormous amount of energy he held within, he managed to carve some symbols down on a rock.   These symbols represent what he saw that day, but no one is entirely sure what they mean. Many proposed translations have been made over the centuries but no one seems to agree 100% on a theory.   This was the last he ever wrote as he faded into sand crystals shortly after, with his one eye to be the only thing remaining - the eye that now knew the entirety of the sun-secrets - crystallized and imbued with immense energy.

The myth tells how he was the first to understand the sun, and also the last to fully understand it. Édgar, the god of the sun, had gracefully blessed the people of Irai, so they would be able to use the magic of Édgar himself; fire, light and heat magics.   But some individuals from the first tribes in Irai weren't satisfied with what they got. They were sure that Édgar was holding back a lot of knowledge, and they wanted more.   In particular, Uiowyn. He wanted to know everything there was to know, and he wanted to be able to fully understand the powerful magic that Édgar possessed, which is why he ended up trying to understand the secrets of the sun.   After this discovery that he had to pay his life for, the tribe he came from kept learning the ways of the sun in a more careful and respectful way.
Uiowyns eye is famously named as Eye of the Sun and haven't been seen since that fateful day.   According to the ancient stories the eye is said to be located in an underground sun temple created by the first Irai, but the temple has never been seen and the location of it continues to be unknown.

Short summery

This myth is the closest Irai has got to an explanation for their knowledge of the sun and its powers. Though some don't want to hand it all to a single curious tribe member and sees the myth as just that; a myth.   The more common known opinion is that the myth tells an exaggerated story of the real events that lead to their understanding of the sun.
