Mino Atheka

Being a brave and courageous hero is no small title, and to Mino, this just seems too overwhelming.

I did what any decent person would've done! That doesn't make me a hero.

But, he is a hero to many, and a role model to many young Lakaians. You see, magic isn't well received in these parts of the world, and is prohibited in some of the more traditional communities around the country. It is believed in their faith that magic is from the gods and is only meant for them, and if we play too much with their powers, bad things will happen as they will punish and retaliate.
And this is where Mino comes into the picture, as he managed to save an entire city with the use of his solar magic.

The incident

Mino had been living in a smaller settlement, Essli, just outside a larger town called Andriuul. He had been working on his small farm that day when he suddenly noticed a strong scent of smoke in the air. He immediately searched for the source and feared it was coming from somewhere close to him. This is when he noticed it, a large column of ash black smoke coming from Andriuul in the horizon.
Having many relations in the city, he jumped on his Kayu, and left in a hurry towards the seemingly burning town. When he arrived multiple houses were on fire, and they were burning fast, and in a moment of panic, he started to bend the fire away, controlling it with his solar magic.

Solar magic

This was no time to care for what others might think of you using magic. He went to every single burning structure looking for life, making sure no one was stuck or left in the buildings. He saved multiple people by pushing back the fires, controlling them, running into the flaming buildings and carrying out passed out people.
It is estimated that he saved around 21 individuals that day by directly walking into flaming buildings and extracting them.
After he made sure everyone was out of danger, he started to try and control the flames, extinguishing as much as he could - though he was terribly rusty with magic, he managed to control a lot of the fires.

He was praised by all, not only the people of Andriuul, but people from every town in Lakai. This was a positive push for the use of magic that the people had really needed - not all magic is danger and doom. In this instance, he inspired many of the young as well as elders to look into magic a bit more.

The Trilada accident happened in 4714, when Mino was only 9 years old.

The fire in Andriuul happened in 4733, when Mino was 28 years old.

Early life

When Mino was but a small child, he lived in the town called Trilada. Here, he and his family had a nice and calm life, where he and his sister went to school and were good kids. But Mino had always been a curious and adventurous child, and he often left the small town to explore nearby areas and cities. His parents were aware of this and had made a deal with him, to not go too far, and always be back home at sundown.
Mino was a good and dutiful boy, and he never came home late, so his parents weren't worried the slightest... But they probably would be if they knew who he had met and kept meeting with outside of town. Trilada was a town close to the country border or Irai, and this is where little Mino had been exploring. He met two other boys, who had been using a clearing to practise their fire/solar magic, and Mino had walked in on them doing some amazing stuff.
He became friends with the two from Irai, and they promised to teach him some magic. This is where Mino got his first taste of magic, and he was not gonna stop there! Though it didn't go the way he had envisioned at first. He wanted to practise in a safe clearing close to home, so he could sneak out at night without being too far away from home.
So that is what he did. But one night, the wind had gotten stronger while Mino was practising, and had flung the fire onto some dead branches, and it had started a fire. It wasn't so big that it couldn't be stopped, but Mino hadn't learned how to extinguish the fire yet, so he panicked trying to stop it... It was too late though. The dry leaves and bushes caught fire quickly, and it seemed to be faster than the train of thought Mino had in those seconds. He had now accidentally created a wildfire, quickly spreading to his hometown just nearby.
In complete panic, the little boy ran back to his home and woke his parents up. He told them about the fire outside, and that it was coming towards the town. Bells were rung as everyone was woken up and alerted by the situation. And the people of Trilada, including Mino, could only watch as their town was burned and scorched.
Rumours in town told of a boy, or maybe a group of boys, playing with solar magic, but it was never determined who set fire to the town that day - but believe me, Mino and his parents will never forget it. And though his parents knew that Mino was at fault, they could never tell the city that. It was better for them to have it as a story, and a lesson, rather than having one to constantly blame.
