Dark Ones/Shadow Worshippers - Prompt #14 an old or ancient organization which still casts a shadow

Prompt #14 an old or ancient organization which still casts a shadow - Dark Ones/Shadow Worshippers
except from Relic of Time and Prophecies... Setting - City of New Hope, Terrearth   Lord Kaleth will regret that he married Lady D’Aymee instead of running away with me, Lady Morgana decided malevolently. She remembered how he rejected her over one use of dark magic, lying that he did not love her. They shared so much, she believed he had to love her, because she loved him, and they were the highest-ranking royals of their generation still unmarried. But instead of standing up to his father and the king, he pleaded duty, and married the younger D’Aymee, daughter of King Axeus and the human Princess Helena. Morgana was half-human too, but her mother had died when she and her brother, Mordred, were born, and no one who lived remembered this. Now, she was married to the much older Lord Loki, the eldest half-human son of the High Lord Odini. Her power and influence were now greater than her former lover’s prestige would ever be. She would make sure he suffered, even far away in his country kingdom. Lord Kaleth’s youngest son would belong to her dark master. Lady Morgana smirked malevolently, as the sun set over the city, while watching the happy family walking toward their manor near the sea. It was only a matter of time before darkness fell over the House of Adamos. The Shadows wanted one of the sons of Adamos for their own and her daughter would be the one to lead him to them, since she herself had not been able to conceive a son from Kaleth. Morgana felt her husband before he spoke, the darkness of the House of Loki was like a cold breeze on a hot day and was far stronger than her house of Baalru. “Is it begun, my wife?” “Yes, my lord, our daughter has performed her task.” Without turning, she felt the cruel malevolence and power of his shadow smile. “Very good, we must now be diligent in young Damien’s education. Do not fail us, Morgana, or your blood will be mixed with your daughter’s in my blood altar.” Morgana turned and glared at him, “Do not threaten me, Loki. It was your influence that failed to see me sealed to Lord Kaleth and instead, he wed that pathetic healer.” Her voice dropped an octave, “And do not threaten my daughter, for she is doing what you could not. You failed and our masters have had to wait another generation to gain what they sought. The Shadows do not forgive a second time. Perhaps it will be your blood filling the altar of shadows.” Lady Morgana strode away from him, and Lord Loki hated her because she was correct. He needed to get rid of his second wife and keep his daughter close if he were going to keep his power and influence.

Western Kingdom, Terrearth...   Lady Kali was almost 1400 years old, but the use of dark magic had aged her. She carried white streaks in her ebony hair, but her almond-shaped ruby eyes still held the same cruelty they had centuries earlier when she had given the young Lord Damien his first taste of blood magic. In her visions, the Shadows had shown her this place where her childhood companion was held and how to get in undetected. Centuries of rains had opened a fissure to the surface. Carefully, they climbed down. Leaving would be far easier, one of the rooms contained an inactive teleportation portal that she could easily set to return them to their island. She secretly had such a portal built in the lowest level of their city. No one would know the shadowed son of the House of Adamos had returned to the ancient city. She smiled to herself, she would finish the work she had begun as a child and bring the Dark Kingdom into being. She would not be its queen but one of her daughters or granddaughters would be. The three struggled to carry the sarcophagus to the traveling room. They followed Lady Kali through the shimmering arch way into an elaborate but forgotten chamber under the palace. It was built with rune-carved stones on the floor and ceiling. Lampstone insets glowed in the black and blood marble walls. It looked like a cursed room straight from the Infernal Realm. Kali had them place the sarcophagus next to a blood altar and watched them carry an empty sarcophagus back to the tombs. While she waited their return, she smiled running her hand over the sarcophagus’ surface. “Welcome home my prince, I have brought you back to your favorite room.” Her voice sounded fiendishly affectionate. Grumbling about the treasure left behind, the two thieves and the guard returned. After several moments she turned and faced the three men, announcing, “Thank you for your services. Your payment is in the chest by the altar.” The short one hurried forward pulling out a glass bottle of diamonds, which he held up to show his brother a moment before Lady Kali cut his throat for her magical Blood Altar. The black guardsman stabbed the taller brother who was wearing simple chain armor under his clothes. He slashed the guardsman’s neck and fled back through the portal to the treasure tombs of the Western Kingdom. Lady Kali looked disappointed at his escape. Her altar was only half full. She dragged her guard over to the altar and cut his throat the rest of the way. Then she did the blood fire incantation so the Flame of Darkness would burn near her Prince. Someday, the dark prince would awake, and the dark kingdom would begin again. All Kali and the Shadow followers could do, after they stolen his sarcophagus, was wait. It would take more than a thousand years of healing for him to overcome the effects of the super wither potions created by the Witch Isabella. Damien still slept, dreamlessly, but the Darkness and its Shadows whispered to him and his followers.

An ancient and decrepit Lady Kali was assisted by her daughters to the shadow chamber where their Prince rested. Her silky red dress and veil hung on her like a blood washed shroud. She had hoped her beloved Damien would wake before she died but she was nearly 2500 years old and magic would not preserve her body much longer, she silently cursed her mother’s parents for being part human and diluting the purity of their blood. Morgana had been half human, but her father Loki had been pure Atlantian, he should still be alive, but the ice sickness and the use of dark magic had aged him. Of those who came with the first settlement, fewer than a handful still survived and only they were pure bloods, even the king wasn’t a pure blood. How she desired to add their powerful blood to her father’s altar. Soon her blood would join her father’s, mother’s, uncles’, and aunts’ blood in the master blood altar that had been in their family since their people had settled this new city almost 5000 years ago. It was one of the first things Lord Loki, last son of High Lord Odini had made with knowledge only their family and two others possessed. Loki’s mother had been Hellia, daughter of Lupin , and granddaughter of the Pale Seer Naphtala of the house of Baalrus. Only Hellia and her brother had extensive knowledge of blood and dark magic, called the Ways of the Xelusia. Their father had taught them after their mother had died suddenly. The King and Lords of the high houses had tried to make sure none of that knowledge was brought with them to the City of Hope, but Lupin remembered. Kali’s daughters stood on either side of her as she laid across the sarcophagus, letting herself bask in the coldness of the shadows that clung to one who slept inside. Kali had given Damien her blood for the first time when she was only 80, and every year since she had stolen him out from under his brother and nephew’s noses, she had added her own blood to the fire. She had laid here for many blood rites and sacrifices. She had even conceived her daughters from her father in this exact spot less than a thousand years ago before adding his blood to the altar. The years had gone by so quickly and yet so agonizingly slowly as she prayed and waited for Damien to awake. “It is time, mother, “The eldest said coldly. “The eclipse is beginning.” The younger added. Kali raised herself up and let them guide her to the altar. Today her powerful blood would allow them to perform the rite to wake him when the shadow of the sun and the moon was directly overhead. Her twins were identical in every way except their eyes, and they were raised to be completely devoted to her Prince when he awoke. They would do all for him that she would have done. “Take care of him, my beauties. Live for him, die for him, until Darkness comes and brings immortality to our mortal shadows.” “Until Darkness comes, our blood and our souls serve the Shadows,” repeated the twins as each drew a sacrificial bound blade down their mother’s forearms. They let her fall across their father’s altar, he who had made their mother, had made them, to keep their bloodline pure so that when the Prince returned, he would have servants who were of blood rank equal to his and were worthy to be called his handmaidens.

“And my brother rules these ghosts now? But why would they want war with us, they destroyed themselves.” Karstien demanded. “Because the Dark Ones we have faced for centuries are from Aetheria’s sister kingdom, Xelusia. A kingdom of Darkness that had been at war on and off with the Aetheria and the Light for untold tens of thousands of years before the launch of the Tear. Eons ago, they were one people, one kingdom then war divided them. Simply, Aetherian chose the light, Xelusians chose the dark.” Daisy shrugged as she finished. They all stared at her in horror and awe except Ezra, who had spent many days privately discussing her captivity with her while she worked. "The shadow worshipers... I prayed they died out in the Cataclysm," Yuri growled. "Nope... they are alive and well and have made Damien their prince."
