Voidkeeper: A journal of stories
The cover was animal skin embossed with a temple built into a mountain like in Laudris. The place seemed familiar, but she suspected most of those temples looked the same. The first page written in Palatial Egrelian:
"A copy of an ancient journal. Transcribed in its original language. Commissioned by Duke Preben Tolr, first cousin to the Prince Demanchi, heir of Egrelia's throne in the year 10,149."
Egrelia was an affluent nation of wealthy property owners and their slaves beyond the sea west of Vildter. Gradin refused to trade with them because they sometimes captured trade vessels and auctioned off the crews. This book spent lifetimes in the most lavish libraries in the world. How the journal had gotten from Egrelia and into Inan's hands would be an interesting story.
The author of the journal didn't bother to write names in common as was the general practice around the world. He sounded them out in the liturgical dialect of Egrelian. Brother Varthian may not have expected his journals to become a historical document. Possibly, he thought his words might just entertain and occupy one of his successors in his temple.
"This is a collection of stories as told by an Orrish man claiming to be the close personal friend of Covenbreaker and his wife Demonseeker. The man called himself Voidkeeper, but after I earned his trust, he asked me to call him by his nickname, Cobu. He came into my care at the Temple of Isolation on the Island of Haven. Although his first days of ravings made little sense, as I prayed over him he improved, and I was moved to write his stories."
