Plane-Touched Tieflings

While "standard" tieflings certainly exist in Aerune, the majority of those called tieflings are a different breed that have more in common with elementals than devils. Plane-touched tieflings are those who are born under the dimensional rifts in Molthuth's sky, and for as long as tieflings have been self-proclaimed guardians of that vulnerable piercing through Aerune's heavens, they have exhibited unique characteristics.   At a glance, planar tieflings are not much different than infernal tieflings. They sport horns of varying shapes, long tails, and a scattering of other abnormalities like six-fingered hands, clawed fingers or toes, sharp fangs or forked tongues, and inhuman eyes and voices. Some planar tieflings have talon-like feet, some have cloven hooves, and others have humanoid feet. They may have soft skin, leathery skin, or even partially-scaled hides.   Plane-touched tieflings do, however, reflect their elemental alignment in their coloration:  
  • Fire tieflings closely resemble their infernal cousins with bold orange and red colors, often paired with soot-black or lightning-white. Their horns, whatever the shape and texture, tend to point primarily upwards.
  • Air tieflings have softer pastel colors, ranging from the blush of dawn to the pale blue of a clear sky, though some have cloudy or stormy greys. Their horns tend to be backswept and usually lighter and thinner than many others'.
  • Water tieflings are darker, from deep cerulean to muted teal to crisp indigo; only a few are lighter blue in color, but many have wave-like patterns in lighter colors across their bodies. Their horns tend to be forward-pointing and, occasionally, twist into a singular horn instead of a pair.
  • Earth tieflings enjoy a range of metallic and earthy browns, often tinted red or orange, and occasionally slate-grey. Their horns tend to be either wide and heavy (whether bull-like or branching) or thick and curled like a ram's.
  •   Each plane-touched tiefling boasts an innate connection to their element and a basic control over the element's manifestation, be it flame or soil, wind or water. Some planar tieflings prefer to ignore their elemental gifts in favor of arcane magic or martial prowess, but most of them make use of their talents in defense of Molthuth from outsiders and in defense of Aerune from extraplanar outsiders.  

    Racial Features

      Ability Score Increase. Your Charisma score increases by 2.   Age. Plane-touched tieflings mature somewhat slower than humans and live upwards of 200-250 years.   Size. Plane-touched tieflings are about the same size and build as humans. Your size is Medium.   Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.   Darkvision. Thanks to your extraplanar heritage, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.   Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common and Primordial.  

    Elemental Fire

      Ability Score Increase. Your Dexterity score increases by 1.   Natural Resistance. You have resistance to fire damage.   Legacy of Flames. You know the Control Flames cantrip. Once you reach 3rd level, you can cast the Heat Metal spell once. Once you reach 5th level, you can also cast the Ashardalon's Stride spell once. You must finish a long rest to cast these spells again with this trait. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells.

    Elemental Air

      Ability Score Increase. Your Intelligence score increases by 1.   Natural Resistance. You have resistance to thunder damage.   Legacy of Gales. You know the Gust cantrip. Once you reach 3rd level, you can cast the Levitate spell once. Once you reach 5th level, you can also cast the Gaseous Form spell once. You must finish a long rest to cast these spells again with this trait. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells.

    Elemental Water

      Ability Score Increase. Your Wisdom score increases by 1.   Natural Resistance. You have resistance to acid damage.   Legacy of Tides. You know the Shape Water cantrip. Once you reach 3rd level, you can cast the Calm Emotions spell once. Once you reach 5th level, you can also cast the Water Walk spell once. You must finish a long rest to cast these spells again with this trait. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells.

    Elemental Earth

      Ability Score Increase. Your Constitution score increases by 1.   Natural Resistance. You have resistance to cold damage.   Legacy of Stone. You know the Mold Earth cantrip. Once you reach 3rd level, you can cast the See Invisibility spell once. Once you reach 5th level, you can also cast the Meld Into Stone spell once. You must finish a long rest to cast these spells again with this trait. Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells.
