The Savage Tide

Event. Date:  Alignment: Chaotic Evil. Knowledge History, (DC 12) The Savage Tide was a phenomenon of destruction. Over 20 ports located around the world faced simultaneous explosions each release some magic that turned those caught in them to turn into blood thirsty cannibals. (DC 15, The Planes DC 15) The Savage Tide was part of diabolic plot by the Prince of Demons, Demogorgan. He had his servants among the Crimson Fleet Pirates distribute some 30 odd “black pearls”. These pearls where hidden in ships or warehouses in port cities across the world. A few were discovered and neutralized but most were detonated in what is now known as the Savage Tide. Each pearl released a burst of negative and chaotic evil energies in a mile radius. Those it did not kill outright were turned into savage cannibalistic abominations that then turned on others around them. Those whom they bite but did not kill often came down with the malady themselves, spreading the chaos and destruction even further. The Savage Tide destroyed a few cities outright, in others it has taken months if not years to recover. (DC 20): There were a number of Black Pearls found and destroyed before they could trigger the Tide, this includes all of the Jeweled Cities and Marble. Apparently someone was able to get word to these locations as to what to look for. (DC 25, The Planes DC 20)The Chaotic and Evil energies generated from the Savage Tide was channeled back to the Abyss where Demogorgon attempted to use it to both unify his two identities and to attain Godhead.
The black pearls were particularly effective in the Middle Kingdoms.
