New Vahlta: History of Colonialism
In the year92 R.L. the people of Vahlta were growing prosperous as the empire had secured a border around its land and its city states. Each contributing their share of resources to the greater good of Vahlta. It seemed as though society could finally begin to rebuild. A glaring problem had presented itself. The land within Vahlta did not have enough soil for crops to feed cattle or its rapidly increasing population.
The land to east was plagued by
Blisters and to the north the barbaric Fayun resisted to call of civilization. Ships were sent from the Vahltain coasts seeking new fertile land to host agriculture. These ships often returned empty handed if at all. The expense of lumber was too high to continue these naval expeditions. Emperor Branus had even considered proposing a child limit per family during this crisis. Fearing revolt, he hired a group of adventurers to quest through the western mountains.
Discovery
This party discovered an entirely new continent. The trees were plentiful and the grass tall and green. Once, they returned to the emperor with a bounty of fresh fruit and vegetables. Branus decreed that all those willing to move to these lands and farm would be exempt from Vahltain taxes. Many of fear of famine and desire to start new lives took on this new life. Thus, miners armed with heavy steel drills powered by Mycarian essence excavated a path through the rugged mountainside inside the Karagan Mountains. Tortostodons were used to haul away boulders and debris.
This new land was titled
New Vahlta. A chance for Vahltain life to carry on and expand.
Herath was the first established settlement in the new land. plentiful bounties of lumber were quickly harvested and used to construct wooden homes. The rest was sent back to the homeland. A much needed resource.
Contact
Within the first year of the founding of Herath. Vahltain colonials encountered the native people of this land. A wild and uneducated folk. Their society seemed to be divided into a series of different tribes. Each with their own form of leadership. The first greeted the colonials with spears crafted of wood and stone. No match for the Vahltain Knights clad in hardened steel. A slaughter ensued. To avenge the dead colonials a militia was formed reinforced by Vahltain military units. This tribe was slaughtered and their name erased from history. Those that surrendered had their hands severed so they could not again bare arms. They were kept as ambassadors to warn other tribes that violence would not be tolerated. However, Emperor Branus was willing to negotiate lawfully with them.
The Vahltains began to clear more forests and tilling the fertile soils. Establishing more communities. Alas, a few tribes presented themselves to the people peacefully. Whether of fear or wonder of the Vahltain military's might it is uncertain. They agreed to help the colonials in harvest the bounties of the land in exchange for citizenship. Branus accepted this offer believing all willing to submit to order of law should be allowed. What these people lacked in technology they made up with in magic. Their shamans were capable of weaving life with magic that seemed to come from
Aerra (Nature, Elemental, Healing) itself.
Over the next few decades the forests were cleared all to the Proderran River. The tribes within either assimilated with Vahltain society or were slain back into the soil they were birthed from. Their druidic spells and primitive weaponry were no match for superior technology.
