Guard Captain Cassidy Brengalt

Cassidy Brengalt was a low level enforcer for the ambitious spice trader Kurven Lesett for three years before Kurven invested in the creation of the worldship Vathar.   Cassidy earned a nasty reputation for her brutishness and for the callousness with which she performed her duty. Due to her froglike facial features, she has suffered consistent verbal abuse from those around her. Her addiction to coin keeps her from using her immense strength to kill; Cassidy will never kill anyone she hasn't been paid to. That doesn't mean she won't leave them scarred or concussed though, and encounters with the Captain of the Dockguards never leaves one unbruised.   After the dissolution of the joint national ownership of Vathar, the trade barons who funded it saw a need for internal law enforcement. Cassidy was careful to show that she valued loyalty to her benefactors over strict enforcement of the rule of law. By the time Vathar had become known as Verivaltus, Cassidy had made herself a clear choice for advancement. As the trade barons created the punitive tax system that governs life in Verivaltus, Cassidy's became a name associated with fear. Late payments earned a visit from the monstrously large tax officer. As the city grew, Cassidy was forced to outsource her beatings because of the sheer volume of payments that needed to be collected. While others in a criminal operation might have the idea to skim the profits of this venture, Cassidy refuses to cheat her bosses, knowing that her role is easily filled, should they become displeased with the way that she runs her docks.   Cassidy has been rewarded for her loyal and intelligent service to the Wheel of Command time and time again, such that her plain garb belies the truth. Cassidy is likely one of the wealthiest people in Verivaltus, not counting those on the Wheel. When she is not patrolling the city, she uses her wealth to make strategic and safe purchases with low but consistent return on investment. It is unwise to get into conflict with this shrewd woman, as she has likely already evaluated the worth of killing you.
