Mekynn Cursewing

Lady / Mistress Mekynn Cursewing

Mekynn Cursewing's story must be told from the beginning, for a more recent historical account would depict her far differently.   Her scavenger heritage often brought upon her prejudice, her youth did not escape that. In a society that, while it did not openly hate her, always doubted and suspected her of whatever evil, she had to fight to earn her status. And fight she did. Through her work, her amazing studies, she made a name for herself, she helped better the name of the scavenger Aarakocras. Her research on the arcanes received attention from the whole world, and she helped understand many different phenomenons. She is, among other things, the one to thank for most information about the biologial relation between Aarakocras, Elves and Avariels.   In her search for the origin of the winged elves, however, she delved further, remnants and hints peppered through stories hinting at a past that did not involve the birdfolk at all driving her foward. Among such researches, she stumbled on some knowledge, digged for other, about the planes. Now, the elemental planes are a subject most scholars have tackled at some point, particularly in regards to the Isolations. However, the story of the elves tackle other planes: the Feywilds, which are again, if not as much a common subject of research, an accepted one, and the Shadowfell.   When her interest in that particular plane got out, the whispers started again. When she hinted at the eventuality of a Second Isolation, she lost credibility amongst most of her compatriots, even though history, as it often does, would prove her right. Her scavenger heritage and the subject of her studies quickly got her rebranded as a servant of the Raven Queen, particularly with her thirst of knowledge, and though she remained the scholar she always was, society could not care less. Her mind that once made her great in their eyes now transformed her into a scheming entity, and she finally earned a family name, something she had gladly went without before: Cursewing. Pragmatic, she adopted a "their loss" mindset, and it indeed was. She receded into the shadows, and within a few years, she completely disappeared from society. Few still want to be publicly linked to her, though dedicated scholars still recognise her genius. Unfortunately, they only do so alone, reclusive.   Some sparse groups have taken her mantle, however. Few, and persecuted, actual disciples of the Raven Queen have adopted her as an icon, a beacon, of sorts, have gathered all of her research as they could. Seen in the same light as their icon, these groups face persecution and must keep to the dark, most of the time, but they are generally some of the most knowledgeable groups alive.

Body Features

Raven black wings and soft, sleek, feathers. Though her hands were more reminiscent of talons than most non-scavenger Aarakocras, she still had an extremely charismatic aura and was for a long time considered to be indeed quite beautiful. Few now would maintain such a claim, even despite the fact her appearance didn't change much.

Has been speculated to be related in some way to the Raven Queen, whether as a servant or the Lady of the Shadowfell herself

This is a homebrew setting, inspired by Wizard of the Coast's wonderful lore and creations, with a particular focus on developing flying races and the planes.
