The Rosenfeld Clan

The Rosenfeld Clan is probably one of the most dangerous and powerful families of Aeria, they are the royal family of the Principality of Ihingrill, rulling over the nation for three generations, being Aranea Elfs of the highest line, as they are direct descendants of King Lonán and Queen Laracna.

The main reason for the Principality's recent success is the work of Prince Lethif, as he created alliances with both the Fuuma from the Ayakashi and the Gaertner from the Moonchildren, to the point of getting married to Theutrich, the son of the King into the Crystal Woods of the Moonchildren after the death of Theutrich's late wife, Gerlind Liadon, and adopting their child, prince Levent.

The Family's History

The first person to utilize the surname was the first prince of the Aranea Elfs, Phoenix of the Roses, who created together with his siblings all the other Aranea clans which own a Duchy, using his own alias as a base to the structure.

As all Aranea surnames, the name Rosenfeld is formed by joining two radicals from Common, as their culture developed surnames much later in their history, and the pronounce is almost impossible to learn correctly if its not your mother language

After the unexpected death of Prince Phoenix, his oldest son Dragon took the throne, even if his sister Kelpie was the official heir to the throne, but he didn't exiled or executed her, what would prove to be a great mistake in the future, instead making her his treasurer.

His reign was considered the worst in the entire history of Ihingrill, being also the shortest, always surrouded by scandal and violence, the only good aspect was the military victories against the Republic of Misthill, Draconia and two dwarfen settlements, but many say the terror wasn't worth it.

Dragon married a total of six times, always with someone who didn't wanted to marry him but all his wifes ended up giving him children, all of his children except the twins are from different mothers, which always caused bad repercussions, in special his marriage to Mielikki Rowntree, his second wife, she was of noble lineage, being also his third cousin, but the reason of controversy was not their family relation but his treatment of her, which was considered too harsh and inappropriate to her position, specially after he banished her to the mountains.

His other wifes also caused trouble for the principality. Elia Makall of the Yuan-ti, Rosamund Tuk of Halfville and Emily Edwards deaths or divorces hurt his relationship with their respective homelands, the tension caused with those nations only got solved during his son's reign. Helena Hatheway caused the least trouble, as she ran away after giving birth, but his last wife, Sena Ishikawa was the worst one, as her cruelty surpassed even his own.

All of those controversies resulted into a conspiracy to take him out of the throne, with his own sister and son been responsible by creating and leading it. In the end, Dragon and Sena were killed in their sleep by Countess Astrid Leonhardt, a retainer of Duke Loren Honeycutt, the royal Master of Spies. Many say the order to kill the prince came from Duke Loren, Grand Duchess Kelpie or Main Counselor Hawkeye, but it actually came from the at the time Grand Duke Lethif Rosenfeld, it is also said that the original idea came from Ortwin, the King Into the Crystal Woods, which is actually true.

After the assassination of the Prince, his oldest son, Lethif, took his place, a very bold action if considered the treatment the Prince gave to his children. Prince Lethif was crowned only six days after the death of the previous prince, but the ceremony wasn't by any means smaller, he sat on the Throne of Obsidian and Ebony after an entire life of enduring mistreatment from his father, who even after Lethif showed great prowess as both Sound Mage, Dragon Rider and General, thought he wasn't manly enough to be his heir, he though the same of his other children, specially the women.

Despite the psychological abuse all Grand Dukes endured, they ended up well because of the work of many people from the court who disagreed with their harsh treatment, specially Main Counselor Hawkeye, Treasurer Kelpie Rosenfeld, Master Spy Loren Honeycutt and Elvan, the court physician.

Recent History

Nowadays they are lead by Prince Lethif Rosenfeld, also called Lirior, the Singing Prince. All alliances he invested payed up, as he got married to Prince Theutrich of the Moonchildren.

All of the prince's siblings work at the Castle of Ihingrill, Griffon is a chef, Basilisk is the new Treasurer, after Kelpie decided to retire of public functions, Garuda cares for the dragons who live in the island, Cocatrice is part of the Court Mages, Helena works at the library and Mai is studying to be a judge.

Some people became part of the family recently, as prince Levent of the Moonchildren became Grand Duke Levent Gaertner Rosenfeld after his father's marriage to Prince Lethif.

Naming Conventions

All Aranea noble clans have a name convension they follow, the Rosenfeld clan's is magical animals, almost all members by birth have their names based into a magical creatures, with the exception of Helena, whose mother was too headstrong to let her be named anything different of her favorite name, and Mai, whose mother basically rulled over Prince Dragon's will.

The other clan member's names are based on:

• Phoenix: a mythical bird specie said to be child of Chror, the fire god

• Dragon: the mythical creature;

• Kelpie: a predatory kind of hippocampus that lives on lakes, is a metamorph

• Lethif: a kind of shadow monster, it looks like a walking shadow and lives in caves like the ones under Ihingrill Island. The name means "darkness cloth" in traditional Aracnean

• Griffon: a alternative spelling of griffin, a magical eagle and lion hybrid

• Basilisk: a kind of snake-like aberration that protects Yuan-ti settlements

• Garuda: a bird like draconic being from the East, it is capable of human speach

• Cocatrice: a sister being to the basilisk, is part bird part dragon, has a very dangerous breath that kills every thing that smells it besides the cocatrice

Dragon Riding

The Rosenfeld clan has riden dragons since its creation, while it is not true that every member of the clan is a Dragon Rider, it is true that all regnant princes were Dragon Riders, as Prince Phoenix rode Kossl, Prince Dragon rode Merghul and Prince Lethif rides Yharrar of the Black Flames.

Grand Duke Garuda also rides a dragon named Hungar, and Cocatrice is learning to ride as they already bounded with Fineor, the Blue Sun.

Assets

They own the biggest castle of the West, the Castle of Ihingrill, lots of land, at least three dragons, a countless number of giant spiders and jewels, gold and silver enough to suply some empires for years, being probably the richest elven clan as they also own anything given to the principality they rule over. Also they own art, magical artifacts and jewelry older than some important empires.
