Celestials

Creatures native to the Realm of Order

Introduction

"But you should be especially aware of the Celestials. The creatures of order seem friendlier, but they are not to be trusted. They too want to break the balance of our world, but they try to do so through deception, manipulation, and false alliances. They will make you think they are your friends... but they are not. Don't fall for that."
— Ailill, the Druid

While more often used to referer to the most intelligent and dominant species of their Realm, Celestials are all creatures originated in Caeles, the Realm of Order. They are characterized by their underhanded tactics to fight and survive.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Celestials more often than not have imposing and inspiring visuals. They look like humans, strong and glorious, with brilliant golden skin, soft hair, and a noble presence. It has been proven though that these are not the real appearances of the celestials, but rather an impressive illusion to intimidate while avoiding panic. Their true forms, while not grotesque, are alien and cold, clean and symmetric. They sometimes feature more than a couple of arms and legs, with mechanical implements, and hardly any individual differences, all in a humanoid body.

Additional Information

Social Structure

The celestials societies are meticulously structured with complex sets of rules, hierarchies, and roles. Who's up top gives orders to who's down below, and there's no way to change that, as they are organized by their inherent skills, dictated by their genes and lineages. One dies just where one was born, be it because of one's status or role in society.

Average Intelligence

Undoubtedly their highest strength, the average intelligence of the celestials easily surpasses that of the Humans, of which only the brightest can rival the average celestial. It is no surprise that brains, and not brawns, are their main weapon on the battlefield, every step they take is measured and planned, and every outcome foreseen.

Average Physique

In contrast, the physique of the celestials is subpar. They are weaker and more fragile than any creature in Aequus of comparable size, which is one of the reasons they rarely resort to violence when confronting an oponent.

Civilization and Culture

Average Technological Level

With a culture of order and reason, celestials have achieved an incredible level of technology, especially in the field of biogenetics. They are obsessed with genetic evolution and the development of their genes through manipulation since their social structure heavily limits their natural development. They also depend on it to create the perfect soldiers, both to match the ferocity of their enemies on the battlefield and to reach divinity.

History

Celestials were created together with their realm, Caeles. They were made by their Gods as living embodiments of the elements of Order, opposing their rival species, the Demons of Chaos. Ages of evolution later, they met with the demons by accident because of a Realm Gate that appeared between their realms, and with their differences, they started a long history of conflict.

Tired of the pointless war, members of both races gathered, rather begrudgingly, to try and build something together. With the use of their powers, they discovered that they could, together, create other realm gates, both between them and between other worlds. This made their contact easier and brought their relationship closer as they tried to find a way to reach their gods. With their powers joined, they were able to create a whole new realm, named Aequus, the Realm of Balance. Their truce didn't last long after that, though, as soon as humanity learned to use magic. This changed everything.

Curiously, both celestials and demons believed in the same gods, the Dragons, but of opposing elements. Each of these species could use magic only of the elements of their respective gods. But humans, as they discovered, could use all of the 8 elements, which meant they could also use the 9th, Aura. This stroke them, as humans could be the key to finding the dragons - they just had to control humanity to use their power and reach their gods.

With the Realm Wars starting all over again but this time for control over humanity, celestials and demons fought against each other for ages to come, always trying to conquer Aequus and failing against the Nine, who only proved to them further that the dragons were within reach. Still, they both ultimately failed, as, during the last of the battles, the Nine were able to seal Caeles and Mors away for good, and they haven't been heard from since - a battle that was known as the Calamity.

Even though they were mostly isolated from Aequus, there were still some celestials who left the war alive and were able to stay, hiding away and trying to survive on our planet. Shrewleons are such an example, small animals that managed to stay in Aequus and make it their home, and are often seen as pets among the high society.

Interspecies Relations and Assumptions

A relationship with a celestial is almost always one of dominance or submission, be it between themselves of with other species, depending on the social status of the individual. Even in the rare cases when none of these apply, it is even harder to have a true, emotional relationship with a celestial. They are cold and calculating, and would rather have a partnership for mutual gain than wasting their time with meaningless things such as emotions. When it comes to demons though they will certainly be enemies as their opposing natures don't allow them to come to a mutual understanding. They have certainly tried in the past, but it was a matter of time until they broke into war.

The relationship between celestials and humans is rarely aggressive. The latter stand in awe before the former and the former tries to intimidate the latter into obedience. But there can be cases that hostility sparks between them, especially if the human refuses to submit.
