It is known that the planes are aligned along the axis of the elements; Fire, Air, Water, and Earth. These are called the “Primal Planes” because they are the basis of all of existence. It is from these four elements that all things are woven. In the outer reaches of the elemental planes, there’s nothing but the core element the plane is made from. Closer to the borders, however, the elements start mixing and various “Demi-planes”, areas where two or more elements congeal to create hybrid planes - Lava where earth and fire touch, mists where water and air intermingle and so on. Traditionally, fire is aligned with evil and is opposed to water, aligned with good. Air is aligned with chaos, opposite Earth, which is associated with Order.
