Celadorn Principality

Proud heirs of the Kaiju Republic, the Celadorn Principality is a land with a long history and a strong sense of superiority.

Structure

The Celadorn Principality is ruled by a Prince, elected by majority vote from the members of the Principal Council. While the Prince rules day to day matters, he can be replaced in his post by a 2/3rds majority in the Principal Council and any of his decisions overturned by a simple majority in the council.
The Principal Council consists of 9 members, elected from amongst the populace. In principal, all citizens can become Patrons and can vote on members of the Principal Council. In practice, becoming a Patron is not an option open to many. To become a Patron, one must own his own home, be 35 years of age and have paid an additional 5 gold coins a year in taxes for 5 years prior. Finally, one's Patronage Application must be ratified by the Principal Council.
In effect, this leaves the position of Patron open only to nobles and the richest merchants.

History

Celadorn proudly traces its history all the way back to the Kaiju Republic. While the majority of the western lands were subsumed by the Taldor Empire, integrating into their cultural legacy, Celadorans proudly tells of how they managed to hold on to theirs. If one digs into the history, however, one will find that for a long while, the citizens of Celadorn considered themselves just as Imperial as their neighbors.
It was not until the aftermath of Empress Sophia raising a kaiju that the Celadorans became obsessed with their past. One of the members of the Cabal who had first suggested this plan to the Empress was the son of Celadorn's then baron and with his return, he was hailed as the savior of his people.
A cultural renaissance saw the restoration of countless Kaiju-era buildings and monuments as well as a shift towards architecture inspired by the age.
When the Taldor Empire fell, Celadorn chose to mimic its rulership on the principles of the Kaiju Republic as well, leading to its quasi-democratic process.

Military

The Celadorn Military consists of professional, voluntary soldiers. Mainly reliant on traditional weaponry, the lack of alchemical weaponry makes the Celadorn Military seem slightly backwaters.
Nevertheless, their strong training and skillful use of siege machinery has made them respected amongst their rivals.

Technological Level

While a few alchemists does live in Celadorn, there is no formal college or support from the Principality itself. As such, their technological advancement is somewhat backwards.

Religion

While holding to the faith of The Pantheon, Celadorn is an unusually a-religious country, more concerned with earthly matters than spiritual ones.
The most common gods given worship in Celadorn are Marduk and Frey.

Agriculture & Industry

The Celadorn Principality relies largely on the great seas of grass to nourish them. Great herds of oxen travel the Grass Sea, grazing as they go. Additionally, ranches owned by noble families have large swaths of the Grass Sea set aside for their herds.

Education

Unlike most other former Taldor provinces, Celadorn demands that all youths from the age of 9 to 13 receive basic education in maths, reading and history. Public schools are paid for by the Patrons, although compensation for lost work is not offered.

Infrastructure

Celadorn roads are well maintained by the Patrons, consisting of yellow brickstone. All major roads are patrolled lightly by Celadorn soldiers, usually coming by each town once a week. It is not uncommon for merchants and travelers to wait for a passing patrol and following them to the next city to protect themselves from possible banditry or a passing Land Shark.
