Sodality of Leigha, The Organization in Aeon | World Anvil

Sodality of Leigha, The

The wielders of magic, this is the very formal guild and official hierarchy of Inducers across Aeon.

And I do mean very formal.

A word to the wise, your query covers a lot of ground so I will gladly pause my exposition if you wish to avail yourself of refreshment. I do recommend it; look at me, I am a very intelligent and eloquent ancient desiccated skull. Think I am dry? I am juicier than the feet of a grape treader in the Iolithican vinyards when compared to this subject!

Still here? I commend your self-belief. Then I shall continue.

Strict rules govern membership of the Sodality and the use of Induction, all Inducers must graduate from the College of Alteration to be able to use more powerful techniques. Single Inducers are quite weak, wielding little real power and only able to manipulate reality a little. To be able to wield more significant Induction powers an Inducer must be linked to another rare and gifted individual, known as a Transformer.

Left Hand of Leigha
The Sodality is governed by The Council of the Left Hand, most often known as the Left Hand of Leigha, or simply the Left Hand. The Council comprises three tiers, each tier consisting of five Talons with one Talon per tier representing each of the five Elemental Spheres of Magic; the Resonant Elements of Earth, Air, Fire, Water and Time. At one point The Priests of Leigha were also affiliated members of the Sodality but they parted ways some centuries ago. I will happily elaborate towards the end of this account.

One Talon acts as liaison with the government of Sulamynen where the Council of the Left Hand is situated within the Elemental Towers, but the Sodality is rigorously independent of any one nation.

Right Hand of Leigha
Five great Pylons sunk deep into the fabric of Aeon resonate with the raw power Inducers draw upon to affect changes in the world. Collectively known as the Right Hand of Leigha, Pylons of Power or The Five Fingers, they are connected together by the Streams of Power and give rise to the Leigha Lines crossing Aeon. The Guardians of the Right Hand watch over the Pylons; an Entwined Inducer-Transformer at each of the Fingers, specialising in the element they guard.

Entwining
When Inducers have advanced sufficiently and proven their service to the Sodality, they may, if they are fortunate enough to find one, be Entwined with a Transformer. This is an individual who has no actual manipulation power but who has an innate ability to tap into the Streams and channel the power to their Inducer safely.

Splicing is a once-in-a-lifetime event. No Inducer may Splice with any other Transformer, and no Transformer can be of help to any other Inducer once Spliced. They are rare and in high demand. They are also likely to have a short life as prolonged exposure to the raw power in the Streams can take a significant mental and physical toll. Splicing with a Transformer is only possible via the Sodality, thus the most powerful Inducers must be members of the guild.

Transformers can learn to insulate themselves given time and teaching. This is particularly important around high-connection Nodes.

Streams of Power
Nodes of Power are where two or more Streams meet and cross, focussing enormous power in one place. The direction of flow varies with time, moving back and forth on a daily basis and giving rise to currents in the Web of Streams.

These areas give Inducers tremendous ability to manipulate reality though at a risk of unintended consequences; reality is more likely to spontaneously shift or bend at such places of power and unusual things are likely to grow (both animal and plant).

The more Streams that meet, the more powerful and unpredictable the location. Towers to the Sodality have been erected at most Nodes of Power, although not all are inhabited.

Priests
As I indicated earlier, the Sodality has a complex relationship with The Fellowship of the Open Palm who also Wield Power. They are not considered a threat however because their connection to Wielding is significantly different and does not perturb the Resonant Elements.

The Priesthood has always been small in number but that has been changing over the last century with more being called to service. This, and the popularity of the Priests with the Sulamynen populace has drawn the attention of the Sodality once more.

And so that concludes this entry.

I do not know about you but I require a large drink after that!
