Fellowship of the Open Palm, The Organization in Aeon | World Anvil

Fellowship of the Open Palm, The

Priests of healing and protection, the Fellowship is treasured by the populace of Sulatas, and most other lands where they are found.

Complex Family Ties
As Wielders of Power or Manipulators of Reality one might expect the Priests to be under the auspices of The Sodality of Leigha, however this is not the case. In actuality the Sodality has a complex relationship with The Fellowship of the Open Palm going back some centuries. They are not considered a threat by the Inducers because their connection to Wielding is significantly different and does not perturb the Resonant Elements.

At one time in the distant past they were indeed members of the Sodality but were considered the weakest members of the order and constantly faced discrimination. Consequently they never attained any position of authority or even respect and eventually withdrew from the organisation, albeit with the blessing of their more powerful practitioners. They were initially monitored but eventually ignored as insignificant.

The Veil
For some reason they do not derive their abilities from the Streams but instead are in tune with the sympathetic ambient energies of the Veil and can tap the gentle wave that bleeds from the Steams and permeates everything. They do not require the intervention of a Transformer, in fact they are incompatible - no Priest has successfully been Entwined with a Transformer.

Because they attune with the Veil they can cause widespread effects, such as subtle changes in the weather of a region, but they tend to concentrate on more localised effects such as healing, crop growth and defence. Offensive effects are rarely attempted as the ripples caused by this, as well as the individual effort required, can prove fatal.

Location and Organisation
Like the Sodality, the Fellowship has their main administrative centre in Sulatas. he Temple of Serenity sits on The Isle of Vision in the Brightstar River and is a place of worship, healing, solace and stewardship combined.

The Fellowship is far less strictly governed or regulated than the Sodality and the general populace hold them in the highest regard, a delicious irony given the historical mistreatment of the Healers by the Elementists who still informally refer to them as Power Leeches.

One advantage the Priests have over their more powerful comrades is the ability to pool their resources and tap the Veil together. Inducers cannot do this.

Leigha
The Priests rigorously worship Leigha as the saviour of Aeon for the sacrifice she made, unlike the Sodality who are more reserved about the link with their goddess.

The Priesthood has always been small in number but that has been changing over the last century with more being called to service. This, and the popularity of the Priests with the Sulamynen populace has drawn the attention of the Sodality once more.
