Deltria, goddess of War, Strategy and Honour

Deltria is the Lawful Good Goddess of War, Strategy and Honor. She is also known as The Bold Shield, and the Shieldmaiden. Her sigil is a burning shield, with a sun glowing in the centre, and an all-seeing eye watching everything.

Deltria is the fourth child of Zeun, the Dead God, the Lost Father and Xera, The Ever Living Mother transmogrified. For a long time when she was born, she was in awe of her other siblings, particularly of Betra, God of War, Vengeance and Subjugation, her older brother. She longed to emulate his warlike ways, and was a scourge of mortals for a long time.

This all changed, however, when Deltria fell in love with a mortal, Peristicles. Peristicles was a war orphan and later, a war hero, and an honourable man, but he did not believe in torturing his captives, or harming the innocent. Watching him first from afar and then from closer, Deltria realised that her brother Betra's ways caused great harm, and that mortals were beings to be cherished, not pushed about and tormented for fun. Deltria changed her ways, and petitioned for Betra to do the same, but he pushed her off, claiming that she was weak. The battle between Betra and Deltria shook the sky for a week, and they say that the constellations were rearranged that day, never to be the same again. Deltria put down her flaming sword, the copy of her brothers, and instead took up a shield which shone like day, which she swore she would use to protect the innocent. To this day, she demands the same of those who follow her.

It is speculated that there may be one or more demi-gods in the mortal plain who are the progeny of Peristicles and Deltria. Several heroes have claimed to be this progeny, only to be proven unfortunately mortal when they fell in battle.

Training as a Paladin of Deltria

When a child is 14-16 they may be accepted into the way of Deltria and train in the way of the Bold Shield. Commoners are usually relegated to footsoldiers, whilst noblemen tend to be trained as Paladins, assuming they have the aptitude.

The Oath of Deltria

Most paladins who follow Deltria swear this oath upon entering her service as a paladin:
The Oath of Deltria drives a paladin to choose strategy over savagery, to protect the innocent, and to remember the ultimate goal, always, is peace.
Look before you leap. Strive to think and strategise before acting. Do not be a slave to base or thuggish instincts.
Shield for the innocent, light in the dark. Strive to protect the innocent, and be a shield for them. Strive to bring Deltria's light into dark places where it is most needed.
Determined in action. Stay the true course whatever the challenge, act swiftly, boldly and true to your goals.
Fight for peace To fight is an honour-bound duty, not a base pleasure, and we battle only with a goal to bring about peace, and when there is no other option.
