Politics: Galik Talwen

Politics in Galik Talwen is as dangerous as the land itself. Assassination, blackmail, and affairs are common. Some claim that this cutthroat atmosphere is a time-honored tradition. In the realms of politics your Clan/House name is very important and who you call kin even more so. Outsiders are not trusted and find it very hard to acclimate to the practices of the native people. Clan Moran has a known policy of only doing serious business transactions with people that they’ve to know the kin of for at least 3 generations. In Galik Talwen they are ruled by a monarch that serves as a figurehead rather than a true monarch. This leaves the Clans and Houses to rule their lands unhindered. The monarch is chosen by a moot held by the clans/houses, where an undivided that meets the requirements set forth by tradition. Some family’s take the title of Clan while others take the title of the house. This is confusing more locals just as it is for outsiders. A family that takes the title of Clan is truly an ancient family, they predate the arrival of the empire and the settlers that they brought. They normally own large sums of lands leased out citizens and towns. They also rule over the large territories within Galik Talwen. Clans are not always blood-related, a person can be adopted into a clan. A person Clan status is not always based of the surname but can be added onto the name after the surname. A House is considered to be much newer. They are less powerful and are less widely known to ordinary citizens. Some Houses are believed to have gained their status through dark dealings with some of the higher clans. Houses and Clans that have little influence will tie themselves to a powerful family in an attempt to hold onto their families holding.
