Chapter 6: Friends, Foes, and Shopping

After successfully completing the "Lanyard Protocal" of the Acquisitor's Adventure Association, the Mighty ASSes agreed to accept a Chronicler (aka "intern adventurer") into their party. The Chronicler they settled on was a satyr from Graevithal named Mia. After settling their business at the AAA, the party made their way over to the Blushing Fox Inn to get some food and settle in for the night. However, their celebratory mood came crashing down as they entered and Indra immediately recognized members of her former mercenary party likewise inside the common room. Seeing that things were about to go bad, Brooklyn slipped away and joined a table with a satyr, who was revealed to be Mia.
Both Nory the Rat and Dorinel seemed intent on riling Indra and Torcanimir - the Elf sneering that the latter was a "sciabbern" in Elvish. Another of the mercenaries, Alexi, seemed interested in defusing the tension, but even his lilting words fell on deaf ears when Torcanimir suggested just killing the party. As the tension mounted and the danger seemed to be rising, Nory the Rat at last declared they wouldn't be staying beneath a roof with "the Blue Bitch" and led the Swordvale Companions out of the inn.
After rejoining each other in the common room, the Mighty ASSes interviewed Mia and decided to accept her amongst their ranks, to be formalized tomorrow evening. The next day, everyone went about their own pursuits - Brooklyn practicing with her flute and studying a new Talent, while Indra slipped out through the gates to scout around the surrounding countryside before returning to do some gambling. Torcanimir meanwhile went about performing religious services within the Temple of Mallia and visiting the two prominent magic stores in the city: Brymbor's Mystical Smitery and The Enduring Savior. Rejoining one another that evening, they went to the AAA to officially sign the contract to join the Adventuring Association.
Brooklyn, Torcanimir, and Mia went to revisit Captain Estienne Tallbrook to see if their ban on leaving had been lifted, but learned that no word had been received yet. Indra, meanwhile, checked in with Kulnick Ironarm of the AAA to see if they would be able to claim the bounty for Albie the Affable, considering they completed the contract by happenstance before joining the Association. Kulnick said he'd look into it and see if an exception could be made. Indra then began to return to the Blushing Fox, but was stopped by another figure from her past: a red tiefling named Cassian, who spoke with a raspy voice. He hinted that he was in the area looking into possible illegal activities, then inquired whether Indra was interested in some side work. When she did not deny this, he gave her a Potion of Poison, which looked exactly like a standard Potion of Healing, and instructed her to use it to remove a fortune-teller in the lower Alfhaven area with it.
The next day, with still no word from the authorities regarding their permission to leave, the party continued their downtime. Little of note happened, although Indra attempted to scout out the fortune-teller's place to no avail. That evening everyone turned in for the night, but Torcanimir was awoken in the early hours of dawn by the innkeeper, Killian Saunders, who told him that there were members of the watch downstairs seeking him and his companions. Torcanimir gathered the rest of the party - minus Mia - and they headed downstairs. Brooklyn sent a message to Mia to tell her to meet them at the Town Hall, but only realized her mistake when the guards instead led them to the Acquisitor's Adventurer Association. Inside, they found Captain Estienne waiting for them, who informed them that he wished them to investigate the situation developing in the Dryad Grove. He provided them with the name of the Netarla Kinship leader who they should meet with and interview: Gaiden.
