Gilliead Flower

The Gilliead Flower is an important flower that has long been cultivated in all four countries of Adir for not only its beauty but its potent healing properties as well.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Known for its many delicate bluish-violent petals and three large, jagged leaves, the Gilliead Flower also has long, sturdy roots that help it survive in almost any climate.

Biological Traits

While the petals and leaves themselves have purely beneficial effects, the stem and the leaves themselves are surprisingly toxic. Eating one stem or one seed can cause indescribable pain, fever, chills and horrifying and realistic hallucinations. Eating anymore would cause an instant, but still agonizing, death.

Genetics and Reproduction

Reproduces through normal plant means with seeds and pollination via hunnybees.

Growth Rate & Stages

The Gilliead Flower is a fast-growing plant that can quickly go from a tiny, green-colored seed to a full-grown flower in a matter of weeks. It will then fully bloom through the entirety of Winter and Spring, only to start wilting once summer comes around.

Ecology and Habitats

One of the main reasons why the Gilliead Flower is so important to the continent of Adir itself is that it can be grown almost anywhere, no matter the season. Though experts believe that the most optimal environment for the plant is in the more colder areas of Fauronos along with the snow-capped mountains of the Eira Mountain range.

Biological Cycle

During summer and fall the flower will be dormant, but once the chill air of Winter comes around, the flower will completely bloom and be at its most potent.

Additional Information

Domestication

Through a millennia of selective breeding by farmers, the flower was turned into its most effective, modern form.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

The Gilliead Flower has a variety of uses. For example, its petals and leaves when ground up or used in food and drink create a healing effect which significantly speeds up recovery. The flower's petals and leaves can also be ingested as is and are often used in cooking due to its delicate yet hardy flavor. Not to mention, the plant has functioned as an emergency food-source in times of famine due to its hardiness. Also, while its stem and seeds are known as being incredible poisonous, those are usually used as rat poison, and in the past the seeds were used to terminate unwanted pregnancies when used in small doses. Its scent also has a calming effect which can immediately relax the recipient, and when used in conjunction with other herbs created a sort of proto-anesthetic which is the ancestor to the modern version used today (which also still uses traces of Gilliead flower). However recently its relaxing properties are starting to be co-opted by drug traffickers who have been developing a new sedative-like, recreational drug. It doesn't help that rumors are starting to circulate that someone has possibly developed a new kind of hallucinogenic drug from the stem and seeds...

Geographic Origin and Distribution

As previously stated, the plant can be found almost anywhere in Adir, though the highest concentration (and those of the most quality) of them can be found in the northern country of Fauronos.

Symbiotic and Parasitic organisms
