Aderna

Aderna is a mystical world where the stuff of creation responds and resonates with intelligent intention of like nature. The nations of this magical world live and progress under the yoke of an advanced lunar civilization. Betwixt the three great continents is the Virbelvar, a massive whirlpool that has caused the destruction of thousands of ships. Once a vessel feels the Virbelvar's tug, no earthly force can save it. Only a wizard who can speak to the waves can free such a ship from the inevitable. Nonetheless, daring seafarers brave the waters daily.   The northern continent of Levandria is the most populous, largest, and most wealthy. Its inhabitants dominate trade across the Great Sea and its rulers have a strong relationship with the Luxora, the moon dwellers. There is an embargo on the southeastern continent of Jirixa, since they have been harboring wizards.   The power of the moon dominates all economic and societal relations. Some nations have a puppet government, some with few resources are left largely alone, and some have been utterly plundered and lain waste.   The southwestern continent, Exartha, was known for its magical prowess. A group of magicians in the mountainous region attempted a revolution against the Luxora a century ago. They were betrayed and the revolution was crushed shortly thereafter.   An unknown change has occurred on the moon, and the iron grip it has exerted for centuries feels weaker. Perhaps this is related to the strange night two months ago, when the sky didn't darken.
