Grodmolim Stormguard

First King of the Dwarves

Grodmolim Stormguard was one of the first dwarves born into Adatia. His father took him to a quarry at the northeastern edge of the mountain range that would later become the Bitafjall mountains. He grew up with his loving father telling him stories of before Adatia. Strong dwarves gathering trusted soldiers around them in great clans. He dreamt of the clans every night, how they would fight each other in times of peace, staying strong for times of war where they would set their grudges aside to form an unbeatable host.   As he grew his dreams began fading in the light of his surroundings. There were some dwarven clans, but they were for the most part only nobles that controlled their charges without any virtue. Refusing to accept the world as it was he left the quarry to join the defense force of the dwarven holds. This position was seen as a great dishonor, as the world was so peaceful, but four decades later the undead arrived.   Grodmolim had, through his careful yet determined actions, had bolstered the defenses of the positions. Around him he had gathered a small yet determined contingent of loyal and motivated followers, including his son of meager sixty years. As the undead began flooding the valley they destroyed all but one passageway into the mountain, without first waiting orders. Grodmolim and his contingent are sent to the frontline as punishment, but their preparations proved worthwhile.   Around him dwarves died as they were overwhelmed by the undead, but his forces held firm. Over the years more and more dwarves followed him and, as he was not affiliated with any single clan, the clansdwarves began using him as an intermediary.   Unfortunately the undead hoards grew larger and larger as the years went on. Grodmolim held fast but, when his wife fell he looked at his loyal troops. Half of them had long since passed and even his son, ever motivated, stared at him with resignation. There and then he made a decision. He called the leaders of every group there, not distinguishing between clan, rank or even birth. Most came, but those who didn’t were gathered up by his troops.   Anger was always bubbling under the surface, but with a rousing speech, calling upon their dwarven pride and the love for their families at home he convinced them. They could not hold the position. They would need to retreat, but to defend rad Bitafjall they would need to more forces. He sent the most respected individuals out to request aid from all dwarves. He and the remaining troops would retreat, harrying the undead, slowing their advance.   For a year his forces slowed the hostile forces. They moved back, collapsing tunnels forcing the undead through longer paths. When he finally arrived at the the first Karak he fell to his knees weeping. Thousands of dwarves under countless banners stood on the walls awaiting his arrival. There and then he was crowned the first king of the dwarves. Under him they formed a nigh impenetrable defense. Unfortunatly against an unending hoard, nigh impenetrable was not enough. Slowly they were ground down, but their savior would soon arrive.   A large Branos host arrived and lead by Avelana Roseheart and Akkarin Ladon gave the defenders much needed relief. The avatars did not bring him good news though. Even they could not defeat Onyxia. Hope was not lost though. If they gathered the other Avatars.   With tears in his eyes he left the defense behind, his son in charge. His five year journey with the Avatars is unrecorded, as the Avatars are the only ones to have witnessed the journey, but it is well known that he wielded Evignet when he returned. With it he slew Onyxia, but also died from the backlash from the legendary blade.   This action directly lead to the first Karak being renamed to Karak Bitafjall and his son becoming the first leader of clan Tordenvejr, the clan designated to protect the ancestral seat of the dwarves and their traditions.
