The Cycle

Magic is defined to be “the influence on a person and the world around them through the expression of their soul”.   It is constantly studied and experimented with in the Adalith. It is currentw   It is widely believed that Potential, the maximum amount of magical ability in a person, increases with practice and is determined at birth. Everyone is born with some magic in them and they develop it over time, slowly growing able to control bigger amounts of energy.   In fact, some are born with too much. These people are called Forces of Nature. If an average mage is a glass filled enough to drink from, a Force of Nature would be filled to the brim- they cannot move without spilling. A Force of Nature could annihilate a building with a single thought. They are powerful enough to convert their energy directly into physical forms.   Although they possess immense amounts of power, they are difficult to train. They are magically sensitive and their powers are volatile. Due to this, their full potential is often wasted by those who do not understand them. Some Forces wear limiters that work like a computer's AVR or transistors. They can still use magic with these, but at an average mage's rate.   A magical awakening will happen during the events of youth. Awakenings occur in highly emotional moments, and result in a burst of magic, depending on the child, and always result in a change of eye- in color or others. It is believed by some that the eyes are the windows to the soul, and that they change in reflection to magic. If a child does not awaken before their adolescent years, they are required by law to be awakened by a mage.   Magic, like energy, has natural laws:   1. Magic follows many of the same rules as energy; it cannot be created or destroyed, it cannot stay in one form permanently   2. Magic is like math; what goes on one side follows on the other   3. Magic can influence every aspect of the world except the workings of time, space, life, and death.   There is no such thing as manipulating “pure energy”, because once power is drawn from the soul, it is already adapted to fit the user. The word for what most imagine as energy is Manifestation, which is a form of magic that is not focused towards any particular spell or action. Barriers and magical projectiles are made out of manifestation.   The use of magic follows the ispine cycle. Ispine is a crystalline form of magic that is left behind as residue, and it is usually aligned towards a specific element or aspect. It is used to store magic and manipulate it in a safer form.   1. Mage expends energy (ex. Lighting a candle)   2. Energy takes form (flame of candle)   3. Form dissolves (candle goes out)   4. Energy becomes crystalline (ispine crystal forms)   5. Ispine releases energy   6. Energy enters environment (where it finds its way back to newborn mages)   Ispine can be synthesized, although only in its “blank” form: completely clear. Blank crystals are used in focals, limit transistors, and as magical batteries.
