01 - Surprises at the Yawning Portal
General Summary
Several adventurers from a new guild arrive in Waterdeep and go for a drink in the famous Yawning Portal Inn.
They witness a brawl between a half-orc and a bald human with strange tatoos on his head and 5 armed buddies. Before the brawl turns ugly with involvement by the dagger-armed thugs, the adventurers manage to calm both sides down. The human thugs leave and the half-orc thanks the adventurers and introduces herself as Yagra Strongfist, member of the Zhentarim guild and explains that the thugs were from Xanatar guild.
But this evening in the Yawning Portal does not calm down at all. As the excitement from the brawl calms down, a troll emerges from the big hole that is built in the middle of the inn. The troll is surrounded by a bunch of stirges, some of which decide to go for some drunkards in the tavern, while some seem to be satiated and return to the hole. The troll is attacked by the barkeep, who does not seem to be too surprised about this event. He calls for people to help dealing with the stirges and then set the troll on fire. Our brave adventurers and Yagra answer the call.
After quickly dealing with the stirges, they try to quench the troll in oil and set him on fire. After a lot of slips, tumble downs, shooting a wall, setting the wall on fire instead and other mishaps, they finally manage to break a lantern trolls back and then set it on fire. The troll still fights back, but finally our brave adventurers, frustrated that the troll successfully avoid their arrows and swords, start throwing chairs at him. And so the troll is defeated - by a flying chair that hits him on the head.
The barkeep Durnan thanks the adventurers for the help and after some very persuasive comments promises them a free room and a round of drinks for the next year.
The adventurers settle down for the free drinks and get approached by Volothamp Geddarm, who asks them to find out what happened with his friend. Volo promises them a very generous reward for this task.
