Treehans

Treehans are a symbiotic hybrids of a moderately powerful spirit (Esper) and a large plant or a tree. The merging process turns the plant or tree into a humanoid form with a semblance of a face. The Treehans does not retain intact the memories of the spirit though they are “born” with an innate understanding of the local spirit realm and as well a basic level of knowledge about the creatures that live within several kilometers of their birthplace, as if its spirit had spent time spying on the local population.

Treehans do not require food or sleep. However, they must spend eight hours a day immobile with their feet planted in soil. Treehans will quickly grow roots into the soil to extract nutrients. Otherwise, they draw sustenance from sunlight. A Treehans requires at least eight hours of exposure to direct sunlight per day to maintain general health. Failure to do so results in accumulating levels of exhaustion under the same rules as lack of Food. Treehans also require twice as much water as a humanoid of its size, generally drinking from the roots of its feet. The quality of that water isn’t important. Treehans are generally immune to diseases and parasites that can affect humanoids.

While not a species in the biological sense of the word, Treehans tend to recognize each other as brethren and naturally try to avoid conflict between each other.

Major Language Groups and Dialects

Treehans cannot speak humanoid languages though they generally understand a couple of such languages. Among each other they can communicate with each other by rustling their body, branches and leaves. Other humanoid can learn to understand such a language, called Dendrolan, though they could never “speak” it.
