Tieflings are not a species per say. They are the symbiotic hybrid of the combination of a demon/angel with a humanoid creatures, typically but not exclusively humans. Such event is very rare: during the second or third trimester of pregnancy, a pre-sapien angeling or demonling tunnels into the material realm from the Void and merges with the unborn child.
Basic Information
Tiefling differ from their regular humanoid with demon or angel-like physical attributes. The most common are horns which can take a wide variety of shapes such as the curling horns of a ram, the spirals of an antelope, the points of a bulls or even less natural configuration such as the curved crown or the complete circlet of ridges.
Most Tiefings have a thick soft tail, about four to five feet long, which is typically not prehensile.
Another common feature is hooved feet which is typically accompanied by fur running up to the calf or knee.
Tiefling's skin color is often a color close to that of its humanoid parents but can take on additional tints such as albino white, obsidian black and various shades of red.
Finally, most Tieflings have small non-functional wings which can be leathery, scally or covered in small soft feathers.
Tieflings can reproduce with member of their original species and any compatible
Liminal species. Their offspring is no more or no less likely to be a Tiefling then anybody else.
The physiological needs of a Tiefling are indistinguishable from their non-hybrid counterparts.
Civilization and Culture
Tieflings appear to have a supernatural capability to seduce humanoids, even outside their own species. They seem to be able to control this charm at will and most use this capacity extensively to achieve their goals or for general purpose gallivanting. Targets of their charms typically describe feeling great carnal desires but nothing akin to love. Regardless, this attraction is not irresistible and many a humanoid will exaggerate the Tieflings abilities to justify their own actions.
Historically, Tieflings were treated with a great deal of suspicion, derision if not outright persecution, particularly by the more conservative churches and cults. Given their small numbers, about one in a million births, Tieflings could never organize in a meaningful way. The downfall of cults and churches during the
Age of Emancipation lead to a wider acceptance of Tieflings in most societies, in particular given the forced integration of the various species under the Empire and the Republic.
In most cultures across Acarn, Tieflings have a reputation for promiscuity and hedonism, which is systematically reinforced by their depiction in books and plays. That reputation is not entirely unearned, given that Tieflings do have a supernatural ability to seduce humanoids.
Tieflings retain a somewhat earned reputation for promiscuity given their enhanced capacity for seduction. Their small num
