Lorinth, Kingdom of
In 2742, after only a couple decades of existence as a theocratic state, Lorinth became an imperial province following a short but bloody campaign which was followed by equally horrible purges as the churches, their clerics and followers who refused to given up their fates were wiped out. From its capital, Loric, generations of hereditarily chosen dragonborn governors enforced Imperial laws ruthlessly and used their station to amass great wealth for themselves and clanmates, the Black Fangs. The ability to transform into dragons was quite common among that clan, though not as spectacular as the Imperial clan. Combined with their herds of trained dragons, the Black Fangs dragonborn kept the human majority in line for centuries. With the destruction of the Imperial clan, the Black Fangs believed they were the rightful heirs to the Imperial throne. The Black Fang clan leader rallied dozens of other dragonborn clans, bolstered by the revelation of Amadeus’ treachery in a rebellion against the Lich Emperor. Only a fraction of the Black Fangs that joined the fight returned to Lorinth, but their clan as a whole remained in control of a new independent Kingdom. The human population saw their chance to overthrow their oppressors.
The rebellion was costly and it was a small band of human heroes who turned the tide decidedly, led by a young woman named Angelika Magull. Angelika’s family had made their way to Matango in the early years of the war, before she was even born. As a child, Angelika discovered that she could communicate and bond with the local breed of dragons, the Matango White Pelts. Angelika was also something of a swordswoman prodigy. Her and a small band of young Lorinthian expatriates formed a group of airborne raiders, the White Wings, after stealing a Tasnican airship. The White Wings helped refugees make the journey to Matango while raiding Tasnican and Thamassan supply ships, mostly around Midlan.
After the war, the White Wings decided to join the Lorinthian uprising, to liberate a land they only knew from their parents stories. Riding on there majestic White Pelt, they gave hope to the masses and slew the Black Fang clan leaders. With time, many of the actions of the White Wings wound up being personally attributed to Angelika and large parts of the public and of the uprising pushed to make her Queen of Lorinth. Angelika accepted, married one of her childhood friend and comrade in arms, Julian Draxler, and everyone live happily ever after…
Actually, Angelika quickly learned that the exercise of power requires more compromises than she expected. She had to clamp down on reprisals against dragonborn families. In exchange, most of the land accrued by the Black Fangs were distributed among the human populace. He instinct was also to repeal slavery but the Banking Houses and merchants of all races very clearly pointed out that she would be risking her throne by doing so.
