Anatomy

Merchant's Elephants are the largest Mounts used by Merchants. They range from 10 feet to 30 feet in height, with an average weight of 10.4t. They have many mutated muscles from their close Elephant Cousins, from having to carry thick amounts of Cargo through the Elfar Lands. They also have an extra 12 ribs to protect their enlarged organs. The most increased organ sizes belongs to the Heart and Lungs, which aid said elephant in long endurance in places such as Deserts, Tundra, or Caves with barely any oxygen. Their Tusks appear to grow into more sharp points, and can regenerate at the same rate as Bamboo, stopping just after hitting 7ft worth of Ivory. It is a healthy task to cut off their tusks, as it stops them from having the chance of ingrowing. They still attain most of the anatomy of a regular elephant, using their ears to release heat, for example.

Daily Life

Most Trader Elephants are born in the most Southern Places of Elfar as they have the highest temperature. Mostly it is in the most Southern parts of the Desert, but some have been spotted residing in thick swamps near tribal camps. They are Herbivorous and consume mostly thick branches and soft Cacti. Most Trader Elephants need to drink 11 litres of water a day to stay hydrated, and they are resistant to most water-born diseases and can drink any form of liquid. Though in the Winter, Trader Elephants travel closely to the Coastlines and Local Oasis. They often reside near caves in order to give food to underdark-dwelling species, which makes elephants known for being one of the most friendliest species in the Elfar region. They coexist peacefully with nearly all other herbivores and half of the natural predators. Though they do have to stay safe from the likes of Giant Scorpions and aggresive Bisharp .

Society

Female elephants spend their entire lives in tight-knit matrilineal family groups, some of which are made up of more than ten members, including three mothers and their dependent offspring, and are led by the matriarch which is often the eldest female. She remains leader of the group until death or if she no longer has the energy for the role of leadership. Families may associate and bond with each other, forming what are known as bond groups which typically made of two family groups. During the dry season, Trader families may cluster together and form another level of social organisation known as the clan. Groups within these clans do not form strong bonds, but they defend their dry-season ranges against other clans. There are typically six groups in a clan. The social life of the adult male is very different. As he matures, a male spends more time at the edge of his group and associates with outside males or even other families. At Tortvain's countryside areas, young males spend over 80% of their time away from their families when they are 14–15. When males permanently leave, they either live alone or with other males and eventually turn into professional Trader Elephants for the Tortvain government.
