Vestia's Light
During the early spring, the purest and first of Abaddon's three suns Vestia is at its closest to the planet. This gives everyone living on Abaddon the longest morning, this period is synonymous with productivity in most people's minds, the start of this period is also celebrated across the continent with a festival called Vestia's Light.
"I once saw the harbormasters argue whether or not to light the fireworks thay had ordered the month before from the Illuminator's guild. While they stood there arguing one of the bakers boys snuck into the barn where the fireworks were stored. You should have seen the faces on the harbormasters when the fireworks went of a minute later a few yards behind them!" - John Arl chuckling with his friends at the Bloodred Fox, 2992 A.R.
History
"In the beginning this celebration was not the festival it is today, no. It was celebrated for the increase in productivity we would be able to give, but as time went on and this is the first of the major celebrations after the long winters it grew in popularity with many of the continents people. Thus it grew and grew until it became one of the most widely spread festivals of the year. It is celebrated from the southern paradise on the Aeris Islands to the smog filled factory cities of The Silver Flats." - Kris Coreen, Shepherd of the Singers of Baccaous, 2994 A.R.Having begun as a minor festival, the celebration has grown into something that barely resembles the old festivities where one might put out the fine silverware if you had any and even serve dessert into a full-blown festival where towns have bidding wars to get the best entertainment and food, all to lure more travelers to the city to spend their coin.
Execution
Usually, in any town, you will find parades with candle bearers, exotic dancers, musicians, and tumblers. People spend money on anything from moonstones to extra-sweetened candied apples.
In smaller towns and villages there is usually a bonfire at the center of the festival with activities and attractions placed in a wide circle around the fire to leave room for the dance when the first light hits the streets that day.
Participants
Almost everyone participates, with most people making sure they are not forced to work at their farms or businesses during the celebrations.
One person is chosen as the fairer before the festival, usually the town major or city council appoint someone to choose the person for this role as it is to be keept secret if possible. With the mystery of who is chosen being part of the fun and helps to get people excited before the arrival of the day.
Usually the fairer is chosen because of their attraction to other people, they may be of any gender or sex, the choosing is left to the one given the responsibility by the town- or city leaders' discretion.
