Stone Tower Houses

Some believe the stone towers to have been built by magic, while others believe them to be natural. Either way, they are a marvel, and many call them home. The towers are connected by rope and wood bridges that can only be navigated by locals.

Purpose / Function

Many of the towers are residential, though many also contain shops and workplaces.

Design

Outer rooms have curved walls to match the outside, and many rooms are carved into strange, organic shapes.

Sensory & Appearance

When lighting from the sun doesn't reach, candles are lit, or sometimes runes if the owners of the house can afford it.

Denizens

Most of the towers are inhabited by Desert Azhar, who thrive in the heat. There are also some humans and Avarians.

Contents & Furnishings

Since it is inhabited by Azharians, it is not uncommon for entire walls to be devoted to displaying weaponry and armor crafted by the inhabitants of the house. Rooms are furnished with rugs and large pillows. There are often tapestries with symbols for the clan to which the inhabitants belong.

Architecture

Houses are carved out inside the pillar, whether single rooms or whole mansions. Many homes are connected, the topmost room in one house connected by ladder or stairway to the bottom room of the next. Some of the smaller or more narrow towers have single, large rooms that are stacked vertically. The larger towers have many rooms spread horizontally. The houses are normally simply furnished, with an ornate stone carved table as the centerpiece. Often it is low to the ground with mats to sit on, since wood for chairs is hard to come by. There are always windows, with woven curtains that are kept open most of the time. Their are no shutters, as it hardly ever rains, and sand from sandstorms never reaches the towers. Homes also often have runes to keep out heat.
