The First Daughter

She was beautiful. An elegant face, the most captivating eyes I have ever seen. That silver hair. She had this...unearthly presence. You couldn't help but be drawn to her. And every word she spoke was like music in my ears. I like many others realised far to late what poison she was spreading among us.
— Excerpt from the Memoir of Saketh Ruir, last King of Illigara
The first to be enlightened. The first to become aware of the divine truth and be tasked with restoring the world to its intended state. The first High Matriarch. The first Daughter of Cybelle.   She was born somewhere in the seemingly endless reaches of Scetia, sometime during the late 14th century DA. Which tribe or culture she belonged to is disputed. Most scholars believe her to be of Heronian descend, equating her with a witch that according to Heronian myths terrorized the land before being driven away around the same time.   Posing as a healer she wandered from village to village in what is now southern Illigara. At first, she was a welcome sight, curing many an illness and spreading a message of love and peace. One day however a Rhomeian trader seeking to do business in these lands found only burned villages, the ruins littered with the corpses of men, most of the women had disappeared.   They reappeared a few weeks later, attacking villages and towns along the northern shores of the river Kefran. Led by the silver-haired woman they destroyed every settlement they came across, slaughtering the men and encouraging the women to join them. Those that did not died as well.   It was a cult dedicated to a long-forgotten goddess. Interestingly enough this, oldest known incarnation of the cult did not use men as slave soldiers or labourers. It also did not construct any of the temple fortresses they would become famous for in later centuries.   This was not the creeping, all-consuming force of the 16th and 17th centuries. Rather it was a small, all-woman army that struck its enemies in lightning-fast raids only to disappear again.   When the Rhomeians send an army to deal with her, she retreated to a secret hideout in the mountains of the Dusk Wall. From there she would terrorize the land for many years. In 1407 DA, however, she was betrayed by one of her acolytes.   Some say it was to stop the cult, others that it was merely a power grab. Whatever the truth, fact is she was brought to Auror the Great, King of Auronia, who had wanted to destroy the witch ever since his sister had fallen prey to the cults poisonous message.   He encased her in molten gold and displayed her like a statue in his throne room. While the reign of the First Daughter was over, the reign of her cult had only just begun. The seeds she had planted bore terrible fruit and many in both east and west would come to feel the wrath of the Daughters of Cybelle.
What exactly the First Daughter looked like is not known. Merely the silver hair and for a Heronian (as most scholars believe her to be one) typical lightly tanned skin are noted. Many artists and scholars, especially those having suffered under the cults destructive reign, tend to portray her as a hideous monstrosity.   Above is a depiction drawn by Gerion the raving Dreamer.
