Novite Ethnicity in A Quiet Realm - Prostesa | World Anvil

Novite

Perhaps one of the most remarkable things about Vela-Nova are its climbers and settlers. Some, after reaching the summit of the mountain, took up shelter and called the mountain their home. Those that live upon Vela-Nova are known as Novites.   Novites that are successful climbers were given direct permission by Aevinu to live on the mountain. Those that are born from families on the mountain have permission to stay upon the mountain by proxy. The only way to become a Novite without being born is reaching the summit and asking Aevinu for permission.   Novites that were born upon the mountain are unique as they are imbued with the mountain’s innate magic. This grants them a greater affinity for spells, creativity, and natural strength. They also have a close understanding of what rhupite is and how to apply it in unorthodox situations. For instance, it were native-born Novites that learned how to garden rhupite-infused plants. Because of this, Novite settlements often have bountiful harvests during autumn and spring.

Culture

Major language groups and dialects

A language shared across all Novites is Celestial, though Draconic is the second most common language. Aside from this, Novites tend to have a broad array of languages, as a fair portion of Novites are not native-born and instead are those that reached Vela-Nova's summit.

Common Etiquette rules

Following in Aevinu’s footsteps, Novites place a strong emphasis on teaching, learning, and experiencing. Every step they take in their life is progress towards becoming better than who they currently are. Mistakes are taken in stride, and impulses can show one where they need to begin on their path to self-improvement.   Above all else, Novites value a strong sense of character regardless of morality. If someone understands who they are and acts without shame, then they are seen as a “model” figure for their community. Likewise, those that don fake personalities and imitate the guise of another are frowned upon.
