Not So Simple Ends

I prepare to set out with the 67 on a mild expedition tonight, we set foot into the wilds just beyond the walls of Murray, we have a plan and I feel confident.   Shortly after our debriefing with Lucy about the events of the day prior, one of Rowan Steel's hands reached out to us and brought us to his den. It had been a while since I had done personal work for the master of coin, but so soon after a job for another one of the Court Masters? Seems like Rowan might be desperate to see this done, which doesn't sit right with me. The second richest man in Murray had not concerned himself with our experience or readiness, as per status quo his bottom line seems to be the his dearest concern. I think I will decide to not bring this up to Lucy, I can't help but to wonder if the other Court Masters are aware of Rowans meddling in these matters, could be useful leverage for later. As happy as I am to be on another job and get another pay out, I would prefer to resume training the 67 in a more hands on matter.   Speaking of the 67, their meeting with Rowan went well, however they may not be aware that beyond his outward smile and "most gracious" presentations, his coin purse and the welfare of the treasury are his greatest concern. Gwenmyla doubled down on my efforts when I opted to squeeze the second richest man in Murray for a larger payout, she seems to be adopting to the line of business well. After some questioning around the territory of the log cutters guild we seem to have a solid lead and made a plan that feels viable, even seemed like something the old crew might've pulled off in our early days. On the topic of the early days, I managed to lift myself a pretty useful score from some enchantment shop, Murray has some nice trinkets but I plan to lay low for a while longer. For now, I await nightfall.

Mysterious Summons

There hasn't been a lot of time lately to sit down and compile myself. The last few days have been rough, lords above have they been rough. I got a tip from the heads upstairs to pack my things, I'd be heading to Murray for a while, it wasn't hard to find a hole to keep my things at while I waited for orders. It wasn't until I heard Flo-Kitt was taking a personal role in my next briefing that I began to worry.   After spending some time setting myself up in Murray did I get word from a contact that I'd be given a leadership position in a new task squad, the 67. Had I known better when I had walked past that commotion at the fish stall I would have thought to turn tail and ditch town, but I knew I couldn't do that, the Master of Secrets had found me once before she could do it again. Lords above, Boris, I wish you were here to see this new crew, a couple of short-folk drunkards, a dock rat, and a crazed tinkerin' tool-head. If anyone could whip them into shape, like the 66, it would be you. Heh, maybe I'm in over my head here, but who knows, maybe I'll somehow get to keep my head by the end of this, you should see how the one covered in spikes can fight, he reminds me of Slack.

A Loose End

Bloody hell. A fuckin' *Mind Flayer*... I had thought these things to be only myth, what is that pint-sized idiot thinking? We've never had a job like this, I think what Slack used to say might be right. I need to get a hold of Lucy the very next thing and figure out what this is all about. "Team building" huh?... almost lost the dock-rat in that fight, lucky to get out with my skin still in one piece, and the dwarf seemed pretty banged up by the end, gods can that one take a beating. You really get yourself into it worse and worse, huh Danis?   I seen some detestable things back in Hooke, young'ns in chains being brought to ship for sale and barter, but this.. was something different. The holes in their heads I couldn't get the sights of what I saw down in that dirt hole out of my head the entire night. I told the others to go ahead and I gathered personal affects so Lucy would know what we are saying is true, I don't think I can go back to Tamera or the Gypsy for a while, don't want to be the one to give that news, was never good with that kind of thing.   It wasn't an entire loss however, saw some weird magic barring a door before we saw that.. thing. Had me wondering if it could be learned? Havin' a copy could be invaluable to take the fall for a job gone bad. I also got to see how the 67 preform in a fight. The short-folk fight with tooth and nail, crazy little bastards, but the one that interests me the most was Romenor. I seen elves before but his propensity for the cover of shadow reminded me of myself, and that long needle like sword he conjured from the air. Does he possess psyche abilities like myself? No.. He can't establish a link to discuss thoughts like I can, at least as far as I can tell. What interesting magic comes from the veil beyond the mists.
