Rome Metropolitan Death Zone
The Rome Metropolitan Area is the scene and constant reminder of the current technological context that the world lives in. The site of the worst bio-terrorist attack in the history of mankind (with an attempt to recreate the fictional 'Dollar Flu' being a close second) with a death toll of 9 million. The disease, █████ ██████████ █████ aka █████████████, is a special breed of synthetic plague -known as 'species annihilators' by the general public and a variant of the infamous 'Gene Line' class of bioweapons- that is designed to latch into the local biosphere and kill it's designated target in horrifying ways.
SolForce maintains an absolute cordon of the area to ensure that it doesn't return to 'the wild' and eco-terrorists would use it again after 'perfecting it'. This cordon is maintained by no less than two armies and a sophisticated automated weapons network (connected to one of the most sophisticated sensor networks mankind has ever seen) with explicit orders to shoot first and ask questions later.
SAAT's bioweapon division has had made numerous attempts to retrieve samples of the syth-plague, but those ended with the team getting annihilated before they could even breach the perimeter, further staining SolForce/SAAT relations to the breaking point. Black Section's Datanet mining has indicated that the heads of SAAT want the bioweapon for their own gain. For what is currently unknown.
This has always been a thorn in the European Federation's side, and a rallying cry for politicians seeking to improve the unity of the European Federation as a whole. This has caused several incidents between the garrison at the Death Zone and European Federation forces.
Geography
The largest non-island dead-zone on the planet centered in Rome. Area consists of the actual Dead Zone which has a 37 kilometer diameter (32 km for the actual Dead Zone -covered by a sophisticated and capable 'biosphere' (basically a biodome, but instead of simply a hemisphere it's a sphere) which also reaches deep underground with only four entrances- and another 5 for the 'buffer' zone), creating an area with a 1,075.21km surface area. Other than the fact that the area is more urban than previous, it is the geography of the Rome Metropolitan Area.

The Rome Metropolitan Area has become slightly overgrown ever since the synthetic plague had taken hold of the local biosphere. It should be also noted that there have been reports from White Section's Biowar division that mutations have been taking root within the biosphere of the death zone. These have been regularly hunted down and exterminated for everyone's safety.Natural Resources
