Folderan Hound

The Folderan Hound is a breed of dog that is indigenous to the island and was around before the sorcerers arrived. They have no magical or supernatural/unusual abilities however that doesn't mean that they aren't dangerous. they prey on the weak and will sometimes hunt humans. They are some of the largest of the dogs at an average of 5 feet tall (from front feet to their front shoulders) and weigh an average of 200kg which is the weight of a large Shetland pony, 4x the weight of an average person. The largest was recorded in 1367. It was 6.2 feet tall at 349kg.   They have large vicious teeth and powerful jaws able to tear through cartilage, like its nothing. It has large powerful legs that allow it to run at incredible speeds.   Even though this is a breed of dog it cannot be trained easily. It tends to hunt alone or in a group of three, a whole pack of five to seven is possible but they prefer to be in smaller groups. There has never been a sighting of any pack more than eight.

They prefer the foot of mountains or in large forests where they can hunt without being seen by their prey.

They are dogs that don't shed their fur. They don't hunt during the night too much and tend to stay within caves or burrows during the winter months.

Facial characteristics

They have a nose that is an average length for a dog but its mouth tends to be quite large with huge jaw muscles. Its face crumples up a bit creating lots of wrinkles on its nose when it snarls.

Geographic Origin and Distribution

Tend to located in large forests and the foothills of mountains. Location-wise, Eastern Meresia and Tepecco.

Average Intelligence

They aren't very clever and are one of the least intelligent breeds in the world. They are easy to confuse, distract and trap.

It can hear well but it mostly relies on its sense of smell to track prey, a mate or a preditor/danger.

Common Myths and Legends

There is a story of a Folderan Hound that was 6.2 feet tall and 349kg which decimated many villages in Tepecco. Its a story told to children to warn them of the hounds.

They are fast and strong. Any puppy that is weak will likely be killed for food to feed the rest of the group. This results in very healthy and powerful hounds surviving and being more common.
Body Tint, Colouring and Marking
its face tends to have little to no fur. However, the rest of its body is covered in a thin layer of fur that is bristly to the touch. They tend to be black or brown and never have splodges or stripes on its fur. its skin is corse and rough much like the hide of a cow.
