The City
Calling the city "The City" was my way of establishing some sort of center to my world. Otherwise I feared I would get lost in the incredible universe, that he showed me. So as the center to my world, I chose the city where we first meet. Well... It was a first for me. He claims that we have met many times over the course of history. And he says that using a word like first shows that I still think in linear time. In Helical Time, there is no concept of anything being the first.The City is a bubbling center of change and transformation. But it is also a place where people live. It is an interconnected mess of dwellings, workplaces, transportation networks, infrastructure and cultural facilities. And every language is heard in the streets.
Government
The city is governed by a City Council which consists of 31 elected members, including the Mayor and the Mayoress
The city also contains the national government of the Queendom of Flatland, situated in the Palace of Energy.
Defences
A big watch tower, the Eye of the Imperial Diarch, is the primary defensive construction.
Industry & Trade
The main industries in the city are: knowledge creation and dissemination; green-energy industries, especially wind turbines; communication technology industries; health technology industries.
The city's large harbour makes it an important trading post with the colder regions further bearward.
Service, commerce and tourism are also important.
The city's main exports are grain, cement and Spirits.
Infrastructure
Two bridges and a tunnel cross The Water connecting the city to The City on the Other Side. A small ferry connects to The Island.
Three airports, a large industrial harbour, two highways and two railways connect the city to the rest of the world. Trains, subways, tramways and buses move physical entities around the city.
Assets
The city is home to a huge art museum, a university and a basilica .
Geography
The City is located in a hilly region on the banks of The Water. Two streams run bearward through the city into The Water.
Natural Resources
The ground contains large deposits of chalk, and the surrounding agricultural areas supply grain.
