Church of Edwistburg/The Reminder

The Church of Edwistburg was a grand place full of elaborate paintings and wonderful acoustics. People gathered there for prayer, for weddings, and other celebrations. They also flocked there when in need of advice from a clergy member. The villagers met often for services, singing and praising The Shining Lord.

Purpose / Function

The church was a holy place of worship, celebration, and learning. Services would be held regularly for the villagers. Weddings would be held there, great feasts would also be held there when they wanted to thank The Shining Lord for a victory. People would go there to learn from the clergy. The friars would live, work, and study there.

Alterations

In the year 1042, tragedy struck when all of Edwistburg was raided by The Wahstrehite Kingdom. Houses were burned down, riches were stolen, villagers were assaulted, enslaved, or slaughtered. No building was safe from the evil of The Wahstrehite King. Not even the church. To make a statement, The King of Wahstrehite ordered the church to be vandalized but not completely destroyed. The stained glass windows were shattered, and the fine items were taken out of it. The flags were burned and replaced with his kingdom's crests. He sent a man to the top of the steeple to drape a Wahstrehite flag over the cross. He publicly declared to all of Wynsumheord that the official name of the Church of Edwistburg had now become "The Reminder". It was a reminder to all the citizens that he was more powerful than anything they'd ever seen. It was a reminder of what he could do at any moment. It was a reminder to fear him.

Architecture

Both the inside and the outside of the cathedral was elaborate, making the church the crown jewel of the settlement's skyline; for the steeple could be seen from nearly anywhere at all in Edwistburg. The townsfolk also listened out for the bell that marked important events. It was so grand and loud that everyone in the village could hear it wherever they stood.

Tourism

People often visited Edwistburg to see its beautiful architecture, and The Church of Edwistburg was the grandest building in the village. The impressive acoustics caused many beautiful, melodic songs to emanate from it at random hours of the day.   Now that Edwistburg is in ruins, the passersby only see the church as "The Reminder" that The Wahstrehite King destroyed everything in the city.
