Supernatural Crimes Squad

Special Investigations Division

The SCS is a part of the New York Police Department and operates as a Special Investigations Division. The squad is located at five stations.

Purpose

Our job is to solve cases. Cases which our colleagues cannot solve, because they don't have the knowledge of the supernatural we do. We owe it to the people who seek justice.
— Inspector Cooper
The squad takes over any investigations which have a clear supernatural involvement.   Anytime a detective does not have any active cases they get assigned cold cases with likely supernatural involvement. These usually remain unsolved, but sometimes new information has surfaced with the memories of victims or witnesses being restored after the fall of the veil.

Structure

The squad has five stations, One station for each borough. All stations are under one inspector and a deputy inspector. The inspector directly supervises and organizes the station in Manhattan. The deputy inspector is active in Brooklyn. The stations in Staten Island, Queens and the Bronx have a captain.   The number of detectives varies greatly between the stations. A total of 526 detectives are assigned to the squad. The detectives are always assigned in pairs to cases. The captains decide who gets assigned which cases. The squad contracts a number of consultants on supernatural matters and many detectives have special informants in the communities to support them.   Of the total detectives 63 (12%) are supernaturals themselves. Fifty nine of those are lycans. The other four detectives are a dryad, a vampire, a witch and a chupacabra.

Cases

A majority of the cases investigated by the squad are cold cases. With the fall of the Veil many memories have resurfaced, which has caused many witnesses to come forward with new information on these old cases.   New cases are only assigned to the squad if there is evidence that a supernatural phenomena has caused the death of a victim. Cases without a death are not transferred as the squad does not have the capacity to deal with them.

Public Opinion

Since the squad was established it has been under intense public scrutiny. Journalists, Politicians and ordinary citizens follow each investigation closely. The newly discovered myths and legends had brought fear to many in New York. And this squad is supposed to bring light into the shadows of the supernatural world.   Overall, the squad has achieved a positive image in the public eye. This, in large part, thanks to Detective Monroe with the help of Rebecca Doleh. They together solved several high-profile cases which were able to sway public opinion and led to arrests of a few very powerful supernaturals.

The title immediately piqued my interest! I would love to read more about this squad. :) For example: Have they done any high profile cases? Any cases where they had to cover up the fact that the crime had a supernatural origin?
