The Daemon Fear

As the mists clear from the hallucinogenic tea, you see within your mind's eye a vast sprawling wasteland of erupting geysers spewing sulphur into the air in shades of chartreuse and shamrock. Pools of bubbling midnight black bile pour from cracks in the earth, which oozes across the crimson scorched rocky sands, creating a hostile and toxic environment. Your vision shifts, suddenly, you begin to plummet at a extraordinary speed towards the ground headfirst!. As you brace for what you expect to be a harrowing impact, something similar to what you'd imagine happening to a watermelon that is thrown from the top of the Empire State building!.. You collide! With a... gentle thump, and instantly begin to burrow below the surface.
As you move through the rocky soil and crimsons sands heading towards a strange blackness, which seems to emit a faint blood-red glow. You feel the soil scraping against the cheeks of your face, feeling an intense burning sensation as the soil comes into contact with your bare skin. You can only describe the feeling as though undiluted chloric acid was being poured directly onto your face.
As the feeling intensifies further, the sensation suddenly stops. Going as suddenly as it came, with a flash of crimson light, you arrive and hear a booming voice say:

"Sympathy is for the weak you have succumb to weakness.. you worthless filth!... to 'The Pit' with this worthless heathen and let their screams be heard eternal for our amusement and pleasure! Ha-Ha."

A creature of demonic origin, the Daemon fear little, as you might imagine. However, one of the prominent fears that bubbles under the surface like a snake ready to strike without warning is the fear of contracting what the Daemon call 'The Deadly Disease', known to me and you simply as; sympathy and compassion.
Sympathy and compassion have no place in Daemon society, as a Daemon's sole purpose is to inflict horror as a creature of the darkness. Daemon are therefore purged and used for amusement without question or warning for the mere notion of considering sympathy for anyone or anything!.
But why are demonic creatures afraid of Sympathy? They are not afraid of the actual condition, although some fear is apparent as the cause is unknown. The fear resides and emulates from the so-called "treatment" known as the The Daemon Conditioning Chamber or more commonly called 'The Pit' which is administered by the Daemon swiftly and for all eternity.

Cause

What causes this disease to strike so suddenly and cause a drastic change in deminer? The Dameon do not know what causes them to lose their natural lust for death, destruction and most importantly, other's suffering, which they reveal in.
As Daemon don't care for anything or anyone, even their own, and especially trash such as those who have sucumb to weakness such as the disease. It is hard to track or know what causes the disease especially when ever subject is cast into a inescapable pit of toruture and unimaginable horrors.
From living memory cobbled together from known cases their appear to be no correlation to how the Daemon become infected. One Dameon was plagued at birth; another was struck sudden during battle, another during relations with their slave. Therefore, how the disease is transmitted is simply unknown. But what is known is how to treat it! And treatment is swift and final!

Treatment

Treatment in Daemon society isn't what you or I might consider medical treatment! Were the worst we can expect is a cold hand or stethoscope. The definiation of Daemon treament is to subject the inflicted to mockary and torture by being cast into The Pit. The Pit is a magical chasm designed to inflict untold suffering to anyone who is either thrown in or foolish enough to venture too close and be dragged in by the chasms tentacles.
