Rakeyi ██████

In the heat of the Ravenbarrow Revolution, the end of the Empire seemed at hand. The powerful Ravenbarrow fleet was spearheading a rebel incursion into the heart of the empire, sieging and pillaging along the River of Stars and razing the capitol at Emberton. Then, with the Empire's armies still inbound from their positions on the frontier, the fleet laid siege to Cinderstein.   Cinderstein was under siege for two long weeks before the fleet was mysteriously sunk in the dead of night. The fleet's destruction spelled the end of the Ravenbarrow Revolution, and ultimately set the stage for the First Faerie Civil War.   In the aftermath, many asked who it was who had sunk the fleet. No one knew for sure. Until now.

Mental characteristics

Personal history

Rakeyi was born in Cinderstein during the late Air Dynasty. She started working as a street performer at an early age, and was known for playing the flute, dancing, and simple magical feats. She was never particularly well known, and lived in a small apartment on the rough side of town her whole life.   Rakeyi was conscripted into the armies of Lord Reginald the Conqueror when he took Cinderstein in the early days of the civil war. She was injured in battle and died in a field hospital near Emberton less then a year later. She was buried in an unmarked mass grave along side the other dead in that campaign.   So what does such a mundane life have to do with the Ravenbarrow fleet? Easy.   Rakeyi, a poor street performer with no future ahead of her, destroyed the most feared naval power of the Early Dynasties period.     Rakeyi was a well established performer when the Ravenbarrow fleet started making its way down the stars. The fleet laid siege to the industrial city of Cinderstein, who had no defense aside from the city law enforcement. The citizens were faced with the choice of surrender or starvation.   Deciding that she, at least, couldn't wait around to be saved, Rakeyi took matters into her own hands. She knew of secret tunnels in and out of the city, and spent the second week of the siege acquiring garbage and other flammable materials.   Rakeyi snuck out of the city in the dead of night, armed with a large bag of flammable garbage, two bottles of whiskey, and her flute. She spent the early hours of the night to hide small piles of garbage drenched with the alcohol in strategic locations on every couple of ships. She then used her flute's magic song to ensure the fires were able to cause sufficient damage before being discovered.   Due to where she started the fires, she was on her fifth ship before any of the previous ones noticed. the fleet lost roughly a dozen ships completely, and many other ships were badly damaged when the fires spread. These heavy loses, combined with the quick approach of the Imperial Army, forced the fleet to abandoned it's siege the following morning.

Employment

Rakeyi worked as a street performer for most of her life. She was conscripted to be a soldier under Lord Reginald at the time of her death.

Accomplishments & Achievements

  • Burning down the Ravenbarrow fleet
  • Personality Characteristics

    Motivation

With food supplies to Cinderstein all but cut off, merchants had to raise their prices substantially. While this barely affected the ruling class, for someone with Rakeyi's income it was devastating. Thus her motivation seems to have been her own survival, and possibly a desire to help those who had less and were already starving.   It seems unlikely that there were any political motivations, but it is also possible that she supported the Air Dynasty.

    Savvies & Ineptitudes

Rakeyi was an exceptional flute player, performer, and dancer. While she was never famous and didn't make much, she was able to maintain an apartment and stable food most of her life.    While Rakeyi wasn't good at magic, she often incorporated simple spells into her performances. She also often utilized fire, due to her flute's magic abilities.

Very interesting how someone with a humble background came to play such a large role in the conflict. I wonder though how she got all that stuff on the ships. Were they docked during the night?

Nice article, though it's a sad story :( Why did she chose to not make public what she had done? She could have tried to get prizes from that and maybe even get out of the army. And how did the story ended up being known in the end?

Starting fires with a lute is a nice trick! I also like your drawing.

A good article, if a sad story.   How did she get out to the ships, could you walk between them on gangplanks, was she a good swimmer? I did see that she was Fae and presumably that comes with more magic in the world, but was her flute a fairly common item, and if not how did she come across it? Just some thoughts i had while reading.
