East Montane Road
"There is a Sorleian saying which refers to 'selling cobbles on the East Montane Road', indicating performing a pointless activity. Other than cobbles however, one is likely to meet tradespeople selling most everything else on this road. Beware however: some of the items on offer might be the ones that got pilfered from your pack two days earlier." -MetthosThe stretch of road generally referred to the East Montane Road is understood to start at Broken Helm Pass, running almost directly east across the continent until it reaches the Sea of Doan at Pontmercy. Generally speaking, the road is built well, with large stretches of it paved and tunnels & bridges generally in good repair. Settlements close to the road take some pride in maintaining 'their bit' of road, oftentimes incorporating local themes or signs advertising their speciality goods. At roughly 50 mile intervals along the more desolate areas of the East Montane Road, travellers will find small buildings, commonly referred to as 'stophouses'. These buildings contain a hearth, an outhouse, enough floor to sleep 12 people and secure stabling for 4 horses. It is common courtesy to leave any provisions you can spare, and any mail you can't take any further, for future travellers. The buildings themselves are maintained by the Sorleian Airship and Stophouse Society, an organisation comprised of DIY fanatics.
