Basic Information

When not morphed, they have the same appearance as their base species (human, elf, dwarf, orc, etc.) When they choose to change, their bodies morph into a cross between their animal type and their base species. This is not a complete change. They still appear mostly of their base species, but facial features, hands, feet and chest area come closer to the animal.   They do not change size, and while they are in complete control of their changes, making the change takes a significant toll on them until they have a long rest.

Genetics and Reproduction

Reproduction is the same as the base species.

Growth Rate & Stages

Nuvolycans do not start to manifest their abilities until they hit adolescence. At that time, their mastery of the change is erratic and they may change due to an emotional change. This has the effect of weakening them, and most learn very quickly to stay in control. Adolescence starts at about 12-14 years of age.   Young adults are generally L4-L7 and are more mature than their adolescent selves. Their ages are from 15-23   Mature adults are 24-55 years old and L8-L20.   Elder Nuvioycans are more than 55 years old, and move slower than their younger counterparts. They can live to 150 years old.

Perception and Sensory Capabilities

Darkvision - Can see in dim light within 60 ft. as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. Can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.   Changing - Nuvolycans can change in and out of their alter form, but it takes a significant toll. The first time they change, it reduces their hit points by 1d4 (5) each time, cumulatively. For example, the first time they shift, they lose 1d4 (5). The second 2d4 (11), the third time they lose 3d4 (19), etc. Because of this, Nuvolycans must be very careful as morphing can dramatically (and perhaps fatally) drain their strength. Only available after L3. After a short rest, 1d8(6) is restored. After a long rest, all HP are restored.

Nuvolycans vary wildly in appearance, not only based on what bestial lineage they're descended from, but also in how pronounced that lineage may be. Some nuvolycans might look like their base race at first glance, but will only show their lineage by choice. They are far more in control of their changing than lycanthropes. In fact, they can change at will, but doing so does affect their constitution and can kill them if done too often.   Ability Score Increase   Dexterity score increases by 1.   Age   Nuvolycans are quick to mature both physically and emotionally, reaching young adulthood at age 13. As they have a strong bloodline of lycanthropy withing them, they can live to 200 years.   Alignment   Nuvolycans come in all alignments. They do, however tend to the neutral>chaotic alignments as these fit their changing behavior.   Size   Nuvolycans feature the same height and weight range as their base species.   Speed   Base walking speed is 30 feet.   Darkvision   Nuvolycans have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. They can see in dim light within 60 feet as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. They can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.   Keen Senses   They have proficiency with the Perception skill.   Changing   As a bonus action, Nuvolycans can assume a more bestial appearance. This transformation lasts for 1 minute, until you die, or until you revert to your normal appearance as a bonus action. When they shift, they lose 1 point of Constitution and 1d4 HP for every shift. So the first timr they shift, they lose 1 ppoint of Constitution and 1d4 HP. On the third shift, they lose 1+2+3=6 points of Constitution, and 1+2+3=6d4 HP. It is for this reason that Nuvolycans that hve not achieved 3rd level are HIGHLY discouraged from changing unless absolutley necessary.   These scores are restored by half after a short rest and completely after a long rest.   Languages   Common, and the language of their base species. Can also speak to the beasts with which they share features.

Ability Score Increase   Your Constitution score increases by 2.   Tough   You have proficiency with the Athletics skill.   Shifting Feature   Whenever canid nuvolycans shift, they gain 1d6 additional temporary hit points, and while shifted, you have a +1 bonus to your AC.

Additionally, they can move up to 10 feet as a reaction when an enemy ends its turn within 5 feet of them. This movement doesn’t provoke opportunity attacks.   ~

Ability Score Increase   Your Wisdom score increases by 2.   Tracking   Proficiency with the Survival skill.   Scent Detection   As a bonus action, nuvolycans can detect the scent of one creature within 30 feet of you. As long as they are not distracted by another event (fighting, sleep), their proficiency bonus is doubled for any ability check made to find the marked creature, and they always know the location of that creature if it is within 60 feet. This trait cannot only be used again after a long rest.   Changing   While changed, they have advantage on Wisdom checks.
