The Feywild
Geography
Home of the Fae
The Feywild is a land of mystique. It exists as a "light" echo of the Prime Material Plane — in some ways existing as an opposite to the Shadowfell. The Feywild is known to be the homeland of elves, descendants of the fae. Ancient elven cities are said to still dwell within this plane, and some are believed to even be capable of shifting between the Material Plane and the Feywild.
Very little is known about the Feywild to the world at large. Much of what is in books comes from unreliable narrations, or exists only as speculation. Those who would seek to study the Feywild at length run the risk of being displaced from time, spending years away when only days have passed. Others wander out of the woods only days after they vanished, aged for years but finding little has changed back home.
The denizens of the Feywild are as diverse as they are unique. A "fey" can range from feral beasts to sentient individuals to archfey that have been mistaken for divinity throughout history. Sentient fey often fall into courts of seasonal affiliations, organized under a Queen. Those that are not apart of a court are known as Wildefey.
Realms of the Feywild
As an echo of the Material Plane of Existence, the Feywild reflects its state. It is split into four distinct sections: Winter, Spring, Summer, and Autumn.Time does not pass in the Feywild as it does on the Material Plane. Each region is set in a time of day determined by what season it is on the Material Plane. The current season on the Material Plane is set in daylight in the Feywild. The next season will be set in evening, the third at night, and the fourth at dawn. For instance, if the season were summer, the regions of the Feywild would be as follows:
Summer: Daytime
Spring: Evening
Winter: Nighttime
Autumn: Dawn
Therefore, if one were to stay in one season of the Feywild for a full year's time, they would see the day flow backwards, as the day would fade to dawn, darken to night, and then brighten with the evening.
Features of the Feywild
Time Warp
When one enters the Feywild, time distorts. It is believed that it takes a day's time for this effect to take hold on its visitors. Some have reported months in the Feywild lasting only hours or days on the Material Plane, while others have only spent a few days and found years to have passed in their absence. As such, it is considered dangerous for people to enter the Feywild for anything but brief visits.Mind Alteration
The Feywild is noted to sometimes effect those who are not acclimated to its environment. Visitors have described sensations of extreme giddiness, serenity, paranoia, panic, and obsession upon exposure to the Feywild. This can also occur in areas of Planar Bleed.Seven Wonders in the Feywild
The Seven Wonders have only ventured briefly into the Feywild. They vanished through a pool of water found in the woods along the Triangle's Crossing betwen Silene and Emalora.Within this area, the sky and grass and trees were all painted in odd colors and textures, and the air itself tasted different. They were able to return to the Material Plane through the same portal.
Later, they would visit again, escorted by Cassidy to answer Bricaryn's summons. There, they visited The Liminal Courts, traversing both Autumn and Spring.
Known Rifts
Rifts, portals, or Fae Circles are all names for entrances to the Feywild. They are variable, some only opening under certain conditions, some choosing their destination at random, some indistinguishable from mundane phenomena. The Seven Wonders have encountered the following rifts:East Triangle's Crossing:
Located in a cave off the road between Videria and Emalora, taking the form of a deep blue pool that appears deeper than it should be. The rift activates at night, shown by a bright cyan glow in the pool. The water can charm those who get close, forcing them to pass through. It seems to lead to the season of Spring. A shrine to Bricaryn has been constructed within the cave. The Whimsic Highlands:
The Highlands are riddled with portals. The Seven Wonders came through a one-wayportal from Summer, arriving at the edge of the highlands. The portal was located behind a waterfall, through a circular gate.
