Shadar-kai
Eternal Servants of The Raven Queen
This shadowy and mysterious race of Elves is rarely seen on the Material Plane. These Elves are directly tied to their monarch and goddess, The Raven Queen, serving in various capacities according to Her needs. They are residents of Shadowfell and considered to be one of the truly immortal races.
For many on the Material Plane, Shadar-kai are relegated to myth and legend. Those who believe they are a real race of Elves are unclear if they retain their autonomy or if they should be considered sentient. Few have been positively identified by those not part of the Court of the Raven Queen.
It seems Shadar-kai are content to remain outside the purview of academics on the Material Plane.
Culture
Major language groups and dialects
Given the ancient history of the Shadar-kai, it seems as if most speak Sylvan as a first language and Elvish as a secondary.
Average technological level
As the Shadar-kai helped in The Raven Queen's ascendence to godhood, it can be assumed they developed the magical practices which allowed Her to gain vast amounts of power, enough to become a god or overthrow a god. This knowledge may have been restricted to the Queen's inner circle to protect it. However, it is known that it required all Shadar-kai in some capacity for Her to attain the power She needed. It is unclear how much, if any, power was retained by the denizens of Her realm.
Birth & Baptismal Rites
Births of Shadar-kai are far and few between.
Given they rarely travel to the Material Plane except on official business, it is unknown if more people born to only one Shadar-kai parent such as Valweld'mion Gi'ila and their siblings exist. It's similarly unknown what view The Raven Queen takes of extended leaves of absence for parents to raise their children. Eld'rhistel was granted paternity leave and appears to have only returned to his duties to the Court after the passing of his spouse.
Funerary and Memorial customs
It is unknown if Shadar-kai can be killed.
Historical figures
The Raven Queen was either the first Shadar-kai before ascending to godhood or already part of a distinct ethnicity of elves which She happened to rule as a mortal.
No other Shadar-kai are known by name to history in the Material Plane.
Ideals
Gender Ideals
Like most elves, Shadar-kai do not appear to have any defined gender roles. In Common, many will have a preference for certain pronouns but that does not necessarily reflect upon their gender identify.
