Marxin Desert and the Whales that Maintain It

Matxin Desert is a continental ice shelf that covers all of the planet of itsaso. There are seas where the ice melts during the summer or during solar flares and there is a ocean that exists for sometimes weeks or months before eventually freezing over. Around the equator the ice thins and there are patches of land where there are industrial centers that are closed off to the rest of the population by a wall to protect the settlement tower where natural gas is pumped to the rim dwellers to export.   There are a lot of prehistoric animals that roam this desert as well as prehistoric dinosaur that eat the vegetation that grows on the permafrost. They also eat the algal blooms that wash ashore as this contains kept and other nutrients needed for these giants to survive. They spent most of their days eating as it takes a lot for them to be able to survive. The dinosaurs have their main predator being the ice spiders who carve their webs below the ice creating little pit falls for the dinosaurs to fall in.   There are also enormous ice whales which often go into the rim dwellers territory. The whales come from deep within the planet and sometimes they go pretty far into the atmosphere to get all the gasses they need to be able to survive down in the depths of the icy core. They sometimes disrupt the settlement towers which angers the rim dwellers, but many of the planetary ecologists point out that the whales have a preference to the itsaso people who are low in technology than the rim dwellers who seem to have an abundance of it. The whales are sacred to the itsaso people so the dwellers are annoyed that they can’t just shoot at them. But they also understand that a lot of the gasses, i.e. the natural gas come from the whales itself so they have to coexist with the whales.
