Grimoires of Signa

"The spells in those grimoires are so powerful, that they can manipulate or destroy a mountain. Even if it is true, an Insignis that didn't belong to the Signa will not able to withstand their powers."
- Evas Tirrel
Known as one of the Treasures of Insignis, the Grimoires of Signa is a well-known legend shared by the people of the Insignis race revolving the said grimoires owned by Yuzaku and Nezuki Hakura, the Insignis twin magicians of the fabled Signa party and how it influenced the battles they participated in.

Summary

Created during Yuzaku and Nekuzi's last 10 days as apprentices, the grimoires were used to not only compile several spells they learned along with the original ones they came up during their journey. According to the legends, they've made 8 grimoires, each of them could amplify the spell's strength and effectiveness depending on its element. These grimoires were:
  • Ignis Liber - The grimoire of fire.
  • Liber Aqua - The grimoire of water.
  • Ventus Libro - The grimoire of wind.
  • Liber Tonitrua - The grimoire of thunder.
  • Naturae Libri - The grimoire of nature.
  • Libri in Lucem - The grimoire of light.
  • Liber Tenebris - The grimoire of darkness.
The last grimoire, Arcanis Liber, was unique as it not only amplified the Arcana spells, but it contained spells that neither the twin magicians and their friends shared with the public. One of those spells was rumored to create a gateway to the world of gods and Elementals.   Before their retirement, it was said that the twins hid the grimoires for safekeeping in the secret Mana Room located in the depths of the Arcanum Archives and once they passed away, their descendants would share not only their achievements with their closest friends as Signa, but they share revolutionary spells they left behind so they hoped to keep their race's history alive around Volo.

Historical Basis

Just like the legends of Signa, the Grimoires of Signa's legend remained a mystery as historians and even the Insignis magicians discovered little evidence related to its existence. And while they discovered the basements beneath Arcanum Archives as the legends said, they had no luck in reaching the said Mana Room due to the traps and monsters lurking there.   There were also reports of spells supposedly created by the twin magicians that might be connected to the fabled Grimoires, but it hasn't be confirmed as of this date.

Cultural Reception

The legends related to the Signa party became a well-known story told to both Human and Insignis households as many Adventurers and magicians were inspired to become who they were in hopes of becoming like their heroes and create powerful grimoires respectively.

In Literature

The legend behind the Grimoires became one of the fairy tale stories retold in several books and poems written by famous authors around the kingdom of Lucidus and the kingdom of Ingenium.
