The Attiken System

Background

The Attiken System came briefly into public scrutiny in 126 AG as a rich source of Alzonium, a new element that a then-recent scientific study suggested could be used to increase Drift Efficiency nearly tenfold. The principal investigator, one Dr. Chaln Rosnet, helped companies identify rich sources, many of which were deep in far space. Unfortunately, the Alzonium rush was short lived and catastrophic; the Attiken Settlment Initiative arrived to find that Alzonium had no unique properties and barely classified as a scientific oddity. The principal investigator that published the paper was sought after for fraud, but he was already long gone. He pocketed millions of credits in bribes and tips from companies looking to get the jump on their competitors and used it to disappear. Those settlers who followed the Initiative were left with no support and quickly had to learn how to survive. Years later, the Shiara Corporation, an up and coming company with an emphasis in memory technology, bought the rights of stewardship for the Attiken system and turned it into their headquarters, functioning as a tax haven, executive retreat, and research and development center.

The Planets

Attiken-0

Little remains of this rock planet, subject to some apocalyptic geological instability. What remains still emits strange emissions that interfere with starship systems and navigation, and few who venture here return. As such, there is a travel advisory to avoid anywhere near its orbit.

Attiken-1

Little more than a ball of rock, Attiken-1's resources were mined long ago. Its surface is pockmarked by strip mines and abandoned hab domes, their atmosphere shells long since ruptured and broken beyond repair., Oddly enough, closer observation seems to suggest that the settlements were all abandoned rather quickly, some even overnight. The Shiara Coproration's official stance is that the planet is that it is abandoned and its resources spent, but that does not stop opportunistic and curious individuals from going to the surface to find out for themselves. Those that go report hearing voices and seeing mining equipment spontaneously start, after which they make a quick retreat. To this date, no long term expedition has ever successfully been launched.

Attiken-3

Attiken-3 is a hot house planet, still relatively young comared to the rest of the system. It's theorized that it formed from the remains of whatever event that ended Attiken-0. All attempts to explore or terraform this planet have proven futile, its atmosphere too hostile to allow anything more than the most basic of probes to survive.

Dust Belt

This thin ring of debris divides the Attiken System into the inner and outer planets. Few objects in the belt are larger than an apple, and as such very little of note happens here.

Attiken-4

The first life-bearing planet, Attiken-4 is a so called "Hot Liavara", with temperatures reaching upwards of 1000K. This facilitated the development of life on two of its five moons. The other three are most likely captured asteroids, and contain little of note other than refueling stations and stellar observation platforms.

Narsen/Narsen City

The largest moon orbiting Attiken-4 has been dubbed Narsen by the colonists, as has the city that dominates its landscape. Narsen is a mountainous moon, with sparse forests scattered across its surface. Several large valleys, shielded from the elements, are filled with a variety of wildlife along with rich grasslands.

At-thaka

Literally meaning "Sky Mother", this is the ancestral home to the Undeans. Nearly entirely covered in jungle, this moon has a dizzying amount of biodiversity. While the Undeans are not a spacefaring people, a yearly event known as the Lunar Convergence allows them to voyage to different moons in the system.
